Hutch in living room? Marketplace find - yay or nay?

Hello all,

Looking to redo this room a little bit this year for a mildly vintage / quasi mcm sometimes look. Think vintage but…minimal?

Anywho, our big change this august will be that the flooring will be redone to all oak, unsure of the exact shade but we will have hardwood floors. Mantle will likely be redone to match floor color. The room is empty and in waiting right now.

To the left of the fireplace in this pic — that’s where our christmas tree sits from thanksgiving to new years, making that gap hard to fill. I usually hate asymmetry, and the sides are already asymmetric — ive thought of just getting custom built - in shelves a few years down the road on either side.

there’s this stunning hutch just posted on marketplace that would fit the right side of the fireplace beautifully (where that boho bookshelf currently sits). the width of it is perfect. However, the hutch is only 60in high — I think this would be too short? It would leave a lot of empty space above it unfortunately, as it would not be quite as tall as the bookshelf in this pic. or do people decorate above hutches? I‘m unsure! Mainly just looking for feedback on to grab or skip on this marketplace find.

I love the piece, I mix vintage looking pieces with more updated pieces in my home so I am biased. I think that with hardwood floors and then the rest of the decorating in the room, it would look great.

I love vintage furniture and I love mixing styles. BUT in this case that hutch looks like it’s too close in shape and height to the fireplace- same rectangular shape and roughly the same height. It helps a room to vary the heights of furniture.

I am not an interior designer, but I do specialize in fireplace accessories and creating mockups that depict them. Others may be able to use this mockup to fill in the space to the left of the fireplace along with some artwork over the hutch. I am suggesting the fireplace door needs to change. Not sure why there is a space beneath the fireplace door, but it does not look right.

Put the current shelf unit on the christmas tree side. tree can go in front of it. new piece goes where the old piece was with a big framed pic above it to make it more vertical and weighty.

If @Firplace's mock up is any indication of what it will look like, I say get it now! You may need to futz around with what to place on the top of it or hang a picture above it. But, it will look very nice with your wood floors and provides a nice contrast to the fireplace. Good eye!

Following HU 996 and fireplace’s suggestions and pictures, if you do as they show, you could probably move the wicker shelf unit out of the room for Christmas as it appears pretty light weight. Just another part of the annual switch to Christmas.

Not either minimal or MCM I like the odd antique piece sometimes bit for me it would be apass in that spot . If you need storage then IMO look for 2 matching lower type cabinets and hang art above them for some symmetry and to add both the storage and art both of which are needed in your space . I do think if you love that piece then maybe in the entry or walk in for accessories
