bm Swiss coffee walls, bm ballet white doors/trim

last year

Looking to paint a whole house reno. Planning on Swiss coffee from BM and would like a tiny bit of contrast for doors and trim. Would bm ballet white be a good option for this? Anyone have any photos of this? Thanks!

My home is opposite of what you are planning. Maybe it will help you by looking at the two colors next to each other in my photos. The baseboards and doors are Swiss Coffee semi gloss. The walls (and chair rail in dining room) are BM Ballet White. Walls are eggshell finish, chair rail is semi gloss. Ceiling is Swiss Coffee flat finish.

Two years ago, I diy painted the interior walls in Ballet White. The doors and baseboards were already Swiss Coffee from many years prior to that. My plan was to eventually paint the doors and baseboards Ballet White, as well. However, I was way too tired after the walls were done. I think the two colors look nice together. The Swiss coffee was a paint match (I believe from Ace Hardware). The Ballet White I used was a actual Benjamin Moore paint OC-9.

My instinct would also be to do as Laurie and paint the walls ballet and the trim swiss. Ballet has a bit darker undertone than Swiss. I think it would be helpful for you to look at lots of pics of rooms where the wall white is darker than the trim, and vice versa where the trim is darker than the wall white and see if you have a preference.

The Benjamin Moore OC-45 Swiss Coffee webpage has two suggestions for light (but darker than Swiss Coffee), matching colors.

Thank you for the photos! I think this is a go! Here is the look I’m going for, so the reverse of the photos…

Benjamin Moore pairs Swiss Coffee with White Drifts or Fossil so consider those for trim. Here is a screenshot.

Benjamin Moore pairs Ballet White with White Dove. So consider White Dove for the walls and for the trim Ballet White. This is a screenshot of the Balllet White with White Dove.

The door in your photo above looks a little yellow next to the walls, is that Swiss Coffee?

    Yes.

Swiss Coffee is technically an off-white.

Ballet White is a color - it has 1.02 Chroma which is .02 too much to fit into a neutral category.

Which means enough contrast in Value and Chroma (nuance) between the two to work.

Lisa - the inspiration photo you posted looks calming and beautiful. Please post a follow-up with photos of your interior after the painting is done.

Out of curiosity, what color is currently on your walls? Some suggest painting a primer coat first (if covering a wall previously painted a dark/saturated color) before painting with a lighter color.

In my case, I was painting BM Ballet White (eggshell) over BM Revere Pewter (flat/matte). I used two coats of BM's "Regal Select" paint and feel the coverage was good (didn't use a primer coat). Even though Revere Pewter was a little bit darker than Ballet White, the Ballet White covered well with two coats.
