Help removing Moen 1224B cartridge of bathroom sink faucet

Hello:

I spent countless hours trying to remove the old cartridge from sink faucet. It is a two handle Moen faucet with 1224B cartridge.

When I searched on the internet, looks like I am not the only one who is having trouble. Could someone please, based on my picture, tell me if there is a `horseshoe nut` as shown in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGdExIS3b-o

thank you all. i was able to get handyman's help to pull that cartridge out. it boiled down to using the groove joint pliers and some elbow grease!

They have a cartridge removal tool for about $10-15.

Hi, first thing, cover the drain hole with some tape, you don't to lose any parts

I have changed a few Moens with horseshoe clips, but that's not one of them. It does look like your picture shows a spring clip using a putty knife and a small screwdriver try to remove the clip then pull the stem out, Don't forget to shut the water off.

@woodbutcher_ca thank you. I spent another two hours after reading your comment. tried with putty knife and screwdriver. it is not budging and i am not certain if i am doing it correctly.

could you please point me to where the spring clip is in the picture - is it in the brass portion or chrome portion?

i did safely tuck away the parts and turned off the water supply.

Hi, I think the spring clip is where your red line on the picture is, a little to the left of your line I see a slot. That is where I would put the putty knife and spread the clip open, and hope for the best.

thank you @woodbutcher_ca. someone on youtube suggested that i can try turning on the water supply and the water pressure would push the cartridge out. going to invest some more time today and let you know tomorrow.
