getting these window treatments right

last year
last modified: last year

This window, as you can see, is not centered. The shades are new and I popped them up on the old brackets. The bed will be moving under this window. There will be a headboard height of a couple inches below the window apron. I'm thinking of leaving the curtain and rod and lowering the shade about 4-6". What do you think?

Years ago, I had a wide curtain rod with drapes on each side, masking/compensating for the off-center window. I can do that again but we may choose to go with asymmetry instead and hang some artwork in the negative space to the right. I didn't love how there were visible details showing (trying to hide) that I was trying to hide the asymmetry. It just seems silly to me, fussy, and we don't mind asymmetry.

I think this is the 4th iteration of window treatments in this room and I hope this one sticks! I love the new shades. Suggestions? Help me get it right this time.

Remove the curtains or buy more for the other side. Get a longer curtain rod if you continue to use curtains.

Got it, you want the drapes to look beefier. I do have pairs and the curtain rod is extendable. There's another window without drapes in the room too. I don't trust a curtain rod (with drapes that get moved almost daily) without a stud to secure it too though. Drywall anchors aren't enough. Maybe sheers would be better? This new shade blocks light much better.

I would remove the drape alltogether.

Get an inside mount blind to fit the window. Create a gallery wall with your framed pieces and move the Dresser to that window wall too.

Put the bed on the otherside of the room (just swap head to foot as is) Looks like a widow near the head of the bed now???

We don't need help with room layout or I'd have shared the critical details- closets, doors, windows, etc, Just the window treatments...using our new shades that we love.

We can go curtain-free but I feel like having one helps balance the off-center window? I'll try removing it altogether now that we have a nice fitting. light blocking shade.

Do matching inside mount blinds on each window. the drape is not working.

Consider that the window depth could have determined the outside mount choice. That said, the outside mount is making the drapery rod look like it is squished into the ceiling. The original poster mentioned that she used the old brackets to mount the new blind. Is this blind in it’s final position?

We think you should either remove the curtain currently there and do the Roman shade, or look into getting more panels that can make the curtains look complete. Please see the curtains and Roman shades used below:

Just get rid of the curtain. The shade alone looks fine. I like the picture that has the shade with the valence covering black rod.
