Planning my living room decor for new build

I’ve gone back and forth dozens of times on what furnishings to get for my living room in my new home, and I’d like some input. The look I’m trying to achieve is a relaxed, inviting, comfy, ‘Nancy Meyers’ kind of space.

The items with red marks indicate things I already own. I don’t love the leather sofa, but it has to stay for now. The rest of the furniture I would be buying.

These 2 mock-ups are the living room my not-yet-finished new build, so please excuse the way I’ve had to cobble this together. Lighting isn’t installed yet so it will be much brighter in the space. The built-in bookcase to the right of the fireplace will be white. Walls are going to be the color pictured and the flooring is in process of being installed, so those decisions are not changing.

I’m mainly interested in seeing what kind of vibe you all get from the space, based on these mock ups.

I’m not the only one living in the space, so I have had to compromise on many things, including color. My significant other refuses to have white walls, so I am doing the best I can.

As I said, this is an INCOMPLETE build and no lighting has been installed yet - thus, the lack of light. And this photo was taken in early morning.

If the picture shown is a good representation of your leather sofa, I don't find it objectionable. I've seen worse. It's a good color and doesn't have that puffy, over-stuffed look that some of them have. But I would get two chairs instead of a loveseat. Two unrelated people may not be comfortable sitting on a loveseat together. Two chairs are more flexible.

I like the rug in picture 1, or another rug that repeats the green of the walls and drapes. What if you paired that rug with 2 cream or linen club chairs? Agree with kandrewspa that chairs are better guest seating. They are also visually lighter than a loveseat--getting you closer to that Nancy Meyers vibe.

I love that wall color. Combined with your sofa and your wicker pieces, it makes a terrific space that feels grounded and cozy, but also garden and fresh.
