It does look pretty in the mock-up.

I know your kids are much older, but I just saw this on IG and it made me laugh:

It might work on teens, too, so I’d start looking for leopard suits.

Jilly🤣🤣 I am investing in that . LOL

Although, my daughters may think its funny and then deliberately make a mess just to see me cleaning up while wearing a full on hooded leopard unitard.

I love your sectional. Its beautiful. I really prefer the colors in the rug that Jennifer posted, but, I do understand you dont like the orangy color, so my next choice would be the one that S.J posted above. Its very calm and serene, but, has a bit of interest to it.

    Thanks car_ky.

it does look pretty. i am looking into finding it to order a sample

what i have experienced is that online, the rug colors look soft and pretty, and then in person, they are really loud snd bold.

for example ex… what looks soft pink is really red or orange, what looks light blue is really bright teal, what looks creamy ivory is really brown or sunny yellow.

Its so frustrating. I cant begin to tell you how many rugs i have purchased and returned!

Appreciate the desired feel of the room and also not a fan of either grey rug. Are you going to use another accent colour in the room for throw pillows? Perhaps pull that colour into the rug as well?

Your other rooms I have seen are lovely. I think you can inject a bit more “ fun” into a hangout room with some colour and still have it feel cohesive with the rest of your house.

Thank you for the suggestion. I get lots of great suggestions, but often Inhear to infuse more bold color , etc. It just simply isn't my style or preferred look.

thank you for the compliment about my home; I try really hard to make it a home that we as a family feel comfortable in.

yes, my home is not full of fun pops of color, but we are okay with that. we dont care for it.

there are so many stunning rooms that dont have bold colors and are done in muted , or even monocromatic tones. the below styles are similar to my taste and decor in my home . these arent family rooms, but these are the styles i am drawn to . None of them have bold colors, loud pops etc, but are nonetheless beautiful in my opinion.

I don’t think colour has to be loud at all, nor does it have to ‘pop’.

Thank you sydneyfv, appreciate suggestion . I don”t like that rug…. the birds and nests, reminds me

    of somerhing more for a

baby nursey. I also dislike the color orange; I see a lot of blue rugs have orange in them. that kills it for me.

Thanks Stacey…. that’s a fun rug, but not really the style I am looking for; colors are just too bold/ bright.

while waiting for a few samples to come that I ordered, an idea popped in my head. Adjacent to the family room, is a little nook that we just updated. We oainted the dark cabinets white, are adding a tile backsplash, and undortunatelt had to work around the existing black granite, as it would have been a pain to replace. Anyway… I always disliked the black, but it is what I have to work with. The nook is now white cabinets, with black countertop, so I thought what if did a black and white rug to tie it together? I was playing around in home depot site and ordered a few samples to test out.

Not being a fan of black, I chose ones that were heavier on the white with delicate touches of black.

Here are some that are blue/ gray/pastel mix based :

here are black and white rugs

Tile/ hardware/ new appliance has to be installed tomorrow, but this is the beverage bar off the family room.

Not a fan of any, as they feel too busy and a bit dated. As well, a few rugs seem a long way from your original objective?

Suggest using black (if adding) in more interesting ways and I think a simple rug (a touch of black only) will be much easier to decorate around. Consider how you want room to feel as a whole, which was light and airy.

Thanks maureen…it was just an idea I had.

i do prefer lighter colors, but the lighter colors i am negative feedback about. I wish the black countertop wasn't there, but it is what i have, so thought i could maybe tie it in somehow in the rug. 🤷‍♀️ maybe not🤷‍♀️ I am not doing a coffee table , I have 2 small ottomans that match the sectional. only doing side tables. I really dont want black end tables. We have a small black piano that will be in the room and thats enough for me. not many other places to tie in black except for a rug ( if thats the direction i go in).

You’ve given a lot of thought/know what you like and I don’t think the granite need be a factor, which may help you find the best rug. Good luck and go with your gut.

Black is a very powerful color from a feng shui perspective. Can be auspicious. And also, many designers believe that every room could use a touch of black. But it is a very powerful color, and it's not a color that everyone is comfortable with. Whether it be in small doses or larger doses.

You can just bring in some touches of it in your design - a bit in a rug, and or in a piece of furniture and or accessories. And that is fine. I think your rug choices are nice. It’s all about what you like. But I just get the sense that this is a huge struggle for you - so I don’t see why you need to incorporate the black from the bar area at all. You could ignore it. If it bothers you to ignore it - you could play the area down by putting a paper/covering over the fridge, and a couple of cutting boards on the counter.

You have a lighter color..the new sectional. You want to ground it with a multi colored area rug that has the floor tone. Otherwise the sofa will have a magic carpet ride...

Thank you elcieg. unfortunately, I hate the color orange and I see a lot

of rugs that are paired with blue furniture are orange.

I am glad to cover the floor with a rug because it has an orange tone ; that way dont have to look at the majority of the floor anymore 😂

but i then dont want to look at an orange rug 🤦🏼‍♀️

gtdj, the granite is in a separate area and there's not a lot of it so while it may be somewhat visible, I wouldn't worry about tying it in. Go with what you like for a rug. You could always do a pillow with a bit of black.

true kcooz07 you have a good point. the drink bar is not a big space.

i am getting suggestion pics of orange rugs or reading to get contrast/ darker color, so the idea came to mind ”oh, maybe try a black and white rug, as it will ground it as is being suggested and it would tie in the little nook in ”

We have the piano thats black!!

    i received a few samples.

    1. Dark gray leaf

    2. Below is Ivory with touches of a light green and blue

    3. below is the same rug as above, but with slightly different colors. this one below is ivory with touches of a blue gray and blue - very hard to see the difference in pics honeslty .

    4. this one i feel the pattern is hard to see. probably my least favorite

I like your least favorite 🤦‍♀️
I feel that it’s a great backdrop to a cocktail table and end tables. Busy enough to take on a teenage crowd.

Don’t make a decision on the area rug, till you choose all other accessories. Tables, end tables, and art.

    last modified: 11 months ago

Really njmomma?? LOL… its nice, but in person it is almost the exact color of the sectional. Interesting that you like that one the best. I will stare at some more. they also have it in another color with more gray with some blue accents ( the reverse of this one which is mostly blue with gray accents)

there is one rug id love to get a sample of, but i only see it on wayfair and overstock and their return policies are awful with return shipping fees. 😡

I like the second but also see what njmomma means about the last one working well once other furniture is in place. I think that’s also true with #2, which I like because of the subtle green color. I know you don’t like a lot of color, but that green will add dimension and interest to your space, especially if you carry the green through in new pillows.

Thanks eveyone so far. I dont mind the touch of green. It is soft and muted , and very subtle in the desing, so I am fine with it. I love all pastel/ light colors. Its just hard to find a rug with the right color combos.

It’s the darker, bolder, or warm colors that I do not like.

The reason my least favorite rug was least is becuase i was worried there wasnt enough contrast like everyone suggests I need, and that it gave the ” magic carpet ride ” look that I was warned about. So, to me, I felt like it almost matched too well, and that is was a bad

    thing 🤷‍♀️

here is a pic of the other one I would like to get a sample of to try. It appears to be more ivory based with accents of light blue, light green, light gray and a beigy/ blush color

I suggested the blue paint chip rug by Dash and Albert. Little too bright for you. I think you will love the Natural micro hooked paint chip rug.

Also, I usually get the rug before art. I feel like there is a lot more art than rugs to choose from.

No coffee table- i have 2 small ottomans that match the sectional coming and I will use a tray on them for a ” coffee table” when we need to use it as such. i have my daughters piano on the wall opposite the sectional, so a coffee table plus ottomans will just crowd the space.

planning on 2 small end tables, no wider that 18 inches , as i only have 20 inches between the wall and arm on the shorter sectional side. end tables will only be used for drinks, maybe candle holder; no lamps, as I will have 4 wall

sconces. not much else for furniture

My vote is #2, it looks lovely. And the two ottomans would look nice on it.

That last Safavieh rug is also very pretty — will be curious to see how the sample looks in the room.

I love those sconces, glad you chose them!

That sofa is very pretty. where did you find it?

I like the mock up that maureen posted. love this look. The wood table/chairs-leather tie in the oak flooring nicely.

bring in the natural elements. what kind of tv console do you have?

this rug would also work. (make sure NOT to get a rug made from polypropolene! horrible stuff)

some art for behind the sofa

What about this denim one? love the tones. Look at Loloi rugs (Amber Lewis) on wayfair. they have tons of these. I have two diff runners and can tell you they wear very well and look good in person

The couch is a stunning color! I would think twice about heavily “tufted” rugs since anyone with a slightly higher heel can get caught on them. That being said, I love, this one. The pillow/accessory options are wonderful with these colors.
A great source for pillows is Etsy.com. There are a lot of people who do custom sizes in multiple fabric options.

Thank you redryder. i am very happy with the color as well. yes, i am trying to get a sample of that rug below that you posted from my earlier posts.

i love etsy for pillow covers etc. i purchase often from them and youre right, so many great items there

I was able to order 3 more samples below

    Ivory with blue and blush??

light blue and ivory - maybe some tan and light green in there?

The rug's color and pattern can include blue and orange. This will balance your room's color scheme, making the orange floor and blue sofa more coordinated.

Have you gone out and looked at ones in stores in person. That may be a better option for you, than getting all these samples etc. Easy to return ones you are not interested in too.

Ugh - all three look good. You need to see them in person in order to make a decision.

Hi Beth H! Thank you! i did look at it, but i am not so sure. I remember ordering ordeing a few Loloi rigs when decorating my LR last year, and I foind the ones i got to look old and faded. I didnt really like the look of them. This one seems to have that same look.

I will see if I can get a sample one of the loloi from amazon or home depot; as they have easy returns as oppsosed to wayfair. They are the worst for returns !

    appreociate the suggestion!!

Hi mi vot the 3 sample rugs This one I had hopes for ; the blue and pink are lovely , but the backround/ base color is an awful shade of tan?? the tan color makes the rug look like its either filthy dirty or has been in a heavy smokers house ( even though its not)

    Rug 1

    rug 2

it has light bluish/ greenish , grays and ivories

rug 3 is the same rug design as above, but the colors this one has is ivory and green - not sure i like the colors with the sectional
