White/Gray Granite with Alabaster Cabinets

I’m trying to pick a white granite color for my small kitchen remodel. I have SW Alabaster cabinets and want to do a blue backsplash. I need suggestions on Level A or B that would work, I’m not great at recognizing cool/warm tones and general marching stuff. Floors, cabinets and wall colors will stay the same. I’m chanting the backsplash also TIA

    He wants granite

    He won't do plain white

    He won't do Corian

Higher grade granite and Quartz were outside your budget

He wants." what doesn't work with the floors"

He wants a lot of "movement"

This is not a huge 200k kitchen......

You work with the cabinet color, ( which is NOT a bright, clean white ) you work with the floor, you work with your budget, and ,,,,,,,,,,,,

You sit him down and ask ( perhaps) which one of you would like to be unhappy when you finish.: )

Because there are ways you could both be happy. And not way over your budget.

It could. you'd have to see a sample w/your floor.

    stellar snow

similar floor , but these cabs look a tad whiter??

That one pic above in your last comment, it's too cool. the blue/gray competes w/the floor.

why not go w/the black or charcoa option? i think that would look best w/the floors.

this could work, if you could find it

    Belevedere or copacabana

BTW, Jan has brought up valuble points. He 'Wants' a lot of things that don't work or you can't afford. I mean, is this his kitchen only? is there no compromise? can you save up the rest of the year and get something you both like that maybe costs more than you can afford now?

If you strictly go by what HE wants, I guarantee it's going to look bad.

Heck, show him all these comments. unless he doesn't care and wants what he wants, nevermind about what you want. in that case, you've go bigger fish to fry! lol

where do you live? have you ever heard of Pre-Fab countertops? a lot cheaper

Rebecca Randall thanked Beth H. :

I’m in Louisiana. I’ve heard or laminate pre fab. not anything else though. We usually do all the work ourselves, but cutting countertops might be more than he can do. We were rhinking of butcher block at one time. He was worried about cutting the sink out though.

men like different things sometimes. He likes movement.....this would complement the floor ..its formica...I'd probably do that.....you are getting a whole new kitchen later on.......2nd one is honed absolute black granite...

Here is the formica.....just let him have it..its a different look than what people are teling you to get but I think its good in some ways...your floor is actually a textured look...not really a "movement floor" so with the correct color tones as in this piece, you can use movement on the counter......I dont find this all that busy....... just get a creamy white subway backsplash and be done.

your pretty painted cabinets would probably pop and look even better w the formica.....there are other formicas too. below is absolute black honed granite....no better than the formica really ....esp if the kitchen will be in place for not that long , before an entire renovation.

check at your local stone yards to see if they have any pre-fab granite or quartz countertops. they usually come in 9' lengths, already finished to 24" depths. you can hire a fabricator to come to your place to cut out the sink and install. usually another 500-800, depending how much cutting they have to do.

    it's a nice alternative.

my local place has tons of them.

We have a surplus store that sells 6ft pieces dor $270. They have 3 colors and don’t offer cutting. Small towns are not grest for this sort of thing.

that's why I asked where she lived. if she was near new orleans, they would prob have them.

SoCal has everything since the port of LA is the closest to china. and thats where most of these come from.

small towns aren't great for anything design-wise.

if you have a stoneyard that gets slabs, you could find some remnants.

floor and decor also has a few pre fabs.

What about these? I don’t know about pricing on any of them.

  • last year

Another idea that could meet both of your wish lists and also takes into account your floor AND cabinet color (major factors). Your husband gets an interesting design and you get blue. The issue may be with supplier, but thought it might be worth looking into, as something similar to below would work well. If possible, consider extending your search from just your small town.

Look for an interesting subway in a complementary shade to the cabinets.

Add a washable runner and call it a day!

  • last year

I like that one, no idea on cost though. I’ll find out.

  • last year

Doesn’t have to be that specific one (chances are slim as well); just look for a nice flow in pattern, with a blue and creamy background. Good luck!

Contacted a few other suppliers. This is the only contenders so far.

Hard to tell, as they feel quite similar (they all look nice!). Did you hold up a cupboard door to see which one complemented the best.

    Thoughts on Fantasy Brown?

  • PRO

    last modified: last year

fantasy brown is a Dolomite, (a marble cousin) so you will have to be more careful w/acidic things and staining

    this one isn't bad

But I believe Cosmic Wave is another name for Viscount White (each stone place can name a slab whatever they want. )

    Also known as Silver Cloud

You want the one w/the sharp black and whites.

the cheaper version will be muted grays that meld together

or these. the top one is nice

    they didn't have any black?

either titanium or cosmic or copacabana?

honed or leathered Black Forest is another name

  • last year

too much gray in many of these. you want crisp/sharp as per Beth's description with that floor....black forest works / cosmic wave works/ [Beth 's list] or this... I also like white pearl but it will be too muddled w your floor.

I adore fantasy brown but.... it has had some negative press here on houzz. As BehtH mentioned it is more delicate and stain, etches more easily. But if you are aware you can work with it. I have a marble I love and have no regrets. Check out past post links in bold

Silver Cloud is a beautiful stone. We almost put this in our kitchen. We found it to be more expensive than marble.

Notice this Silver Cloud with a slightly softer movement and color looks nice with a blue color.

Your best bet is going to be charcoal grey, black, or dark brown. There won't be any competing tones with anything, and something in that color range will add needed contrast. I'd stay away from the patterned options presented above -- anything too speckled, patterned, or busy is going to duke it out with the floor (which I really like, BTW).

Winter wood and Titanium are dramatic and either would certainly be the “star” of the room. And they’re unusual (which I think is a good thing).

I like these. Is this L the only part you need? if so, and you buy the whole slab, you are going to have a lot of leftover. (make SURE they give you the leftovers!! )

You can use it for bathrooms, or make a table out of it, or sell it to someone else.

last batch means last cluster or grouping you posted. Last batch or the "latest" group you posted from 2 hours ago. Kiva Dunes is one gorgeous piece of stone. You could go back to the solid blue backsplash maybe w that one , because there is not a lot of color variation.

that looks like Alaska White. or Delicatus White. Same thing. why they keep renaming these slabs is a mystery. you can research those name if you like. it's a decent granite.

this one does have a lot of cool blue gray tones though. just keep that in mind w/your flooring and cabinet shade

ah, ok. It's tough when you live so far away from the yards. look at pictures online of Alaska White. it should give you some idea.

photoshop with one online looks pretty good

somem of them aren't so 'cool and gray'. like this Alaska White

What warms up this shot is the lighting. if you need to, you could bring in bulbs with between 3000-3500K. This range will give you warmer, yellow light compared to the more natural 4000K (anything higher is too cool-blue)

cooler light, but you can see more of the grays w/this one.

doing it this way you can see how much warmer your items are. but this shot is outdoor on a very cool day. there could be more blue in this photo

  • last year

Thanks that does help. The pics and videos she sent today looked darker and grayer. So its no on this one.
