Before and After: My Modern Spa Bathroom Reveal

last year
last modified: last year

Before:

The vision and goals:

I set a mood board and debated on materials for a long time! I asked y’all for help in another couple threads too, lol. I was going for a really modern, warm, spa-like feel that would be easy to clean, and with some unexpected visual interest.

After:

We're aaaaalmost done! We are just waiting on the shower glass, which will likely be a single fixed panel, and then we'll need to style the room!

Some people on here cautioned me against using the 12 x 24 for the shower floor but it works just fine if you get the cuts right!

Key materials:

• Bedrosians Sahara 12 x 24 in Ecru

• Bedrosians Cloe 2 x 6 in Creme

• Delta Trinsic series shower trim system

• Roswell Alistair 48” Vanity

Great work! Love how the new bath is light and bright compared to the previous design.

    Looks good!

The mirrored shower doors in the old bathroom were awful ... not something I had seen before!

What a HUGE change! The only thing you were missing in your ”before” bathroom was carpet on the floor! 😂 My primary bath was not attractive prior to my current renovation. A lot of wallpaper + big jacuzzi tub + similar vanity and countertop as your old one.

Looks beautiful! You obviously had a talented tile installer - my understanding is correctly making envelope cuts on a shower floor takes some expertise!

How thick is your mitered countertop? I’m having a thick mitered countertop fabricated - and I’m trying to finalize how thick to make it.

I used Cloe White for a tub surround in one bathroom renovation and have Cloe Baby Blue to use on the vanity wall (back wall of alcove) in another bathroom (although, it doesn’t look baby blue - it’s more of a mix of aqua tones). The creme looks really nice - I haven’t seen that installed before - works nicely with your stained wood vanity.

Must feel good to almost be completely finished!

That is simply gorgeous. Love those colors.

Nicely done!!!!! Love the warmth of the tile. Such a refreshing. calming, spa like change vs all the cool marble that is pervasive.

Looks very NOW. "Style the room"--don't clutter it up too much you will lose all the freshness of your new space. Bet your're glad to be rid of the mirrored doors. Those are a flashback nightmare from childhood. I think the military bought the manufacturer out. We had them no matter where in the USA we were sent!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

@dani_m08 The tile installer wasn't the most knowledgeable. I don't think he had ever done those types of cuts before and I had to come up with the layout to show him how it should look at the end. In the end the grout lines in the shower floor aren't consistent but it's very hard to notice unless you're looking for it!

Also, re: the thickness of the countertop – it came like that! It's This one: https://www.houzz.com/products/bahia-bath-vanity-oak-36-brushed-gold-hardware-single-freestanding-prvw-vr~163181394

If you haven't seen Creme installed look on Pinterest! I found a lot of examples searching on there as well as on this site.

@Eazy Interior – Please go for it! :D

@arcy_gw Haha! Thanks! Hope it doesn't look too NOW. I was going for timeless!

Nicole - Well, you did a great job directing him re: the envelope cuts on the shower floor. I did notoce that the cuts weren’t completely symmetrical when I initially saw the photo of the floor (I’m a bit OCD - and notice things that others wouldn’t). I assumed that either (i) the shower wasn’t square, or (ii) the drain wasn’t centered - and it wasn’t worth the expense to move it. It still turned out really well!

Thanks for the link re: the vanity - maybe it will include secifications showing the dimensions of everything - including the thickness of the countertop. I really like the vanity - I’ve had a custom one designed (it’s being finished) - but need to tell the fabricator how thick to make the mitered edge for the countertop.

Again, your renovation looks very nice -really love the Cloe Cream with the wood vanity! The floor tile also works perfectly with it. It’s obvious that you carefully thought about how all of the different elements should work together!

EDIT: the specs did show the thickness - 3.9” - that’s helpful. Thanks!
