Siding color dilemma

Dark siding or light siding? Our brick has an ivory mortar which makes it looks beige/tan. I can’t decide.

Wow. Sorry I just thought someone else might see that could give me more insight but obviously I am being annoying. Also, I did have a plan but they used a different mortar so it changed what I was thinking….And I was thinking about using some stone but now you have given me something else to rethink. So thanks a lot for your input. I was just wanting opinions from people that have experience with this sort of thing.

I’ve never seen your post before, but from an opinion standpoint, I like the light colored siding. Looks cleaner to me. What will make a real difference is the landscaping.

Sometimes people on here get a little testy. Ignore them!

Thank you!! I’m leaning toward the light with dark trim. I appreciate your comments 😊

I'm no design professional, but if you're wanting opinions, I'd gladly share mine. :) I think the lighter siding looks the nicest. It provides a nice contrast that the other color doesn't.

If I go with the light color should I do the soffits and gutters black?

i think either color is fine, I would go for as simple of a look as possible - one color/style of siding. Personally I would skip all the stone - siding and brick are plenty. Gutters are not architectural elements so they should blend -

simple, disciplined homes are classic — drama and interest are best added with incredible landscaping - again, this is just one person’s opinion but lots of houses on here with all these disparate materials tacked on to the outside in the name of “creating interest”

Id do a mid-tone closer to the brick. the white is too stark, ( please dont tack on stone randomly) the green is the wrong tone for the brick but id prefer something alone that line vs the white.

Another vote for lighter and skip the stone. Keep the body of the house above the brick all the same. Looks like it’s going to be really cute!

Gutters and leaders should blend into the house color if possible.

I was thinking doing the gutters and soffits black because the windows are black. What do you think about that?

why call attention to gutters? I am honestly asking

I dont' see gutters and leaders as "decor". They're necessary additions and my preference is to have them blend in with the color of the siding. Making them "disappear" is the goal here.

I think either is fine but only if you do the entire facade. Definitely not the dark with white gables.

    No to stone.

Gutters to blend, not to stand out.

I would do soffits in white.

Visually you have split the house in half, and it's not a good look.

I'd find a medium color from the brick for the siding in an attempt to unify the look.

And I'd try the corner boards in the darker trim color.

I'd start by getting rid of the stone to the left. I'd like it, except it doesn't match with the other stone on the bottom. You don't want a striped look, so keep the gables the same color as the rest of the siding.

One type of stone, not 3. What material is the siding? Gutters are not a design element, they should match the trim. As PPF mentioned need to do something about the cut in half aspect as it does look kind of off.

Gutters and downspouts should blend in ... unless you have a very specific style of house that was designed with real copper gutters/downspouts as one of the architectural elements.

I have a Spanish-inspired house and have brown gutters to blend in with the brown soffit/fascia and off-white downspouts to blend in with the off-white stucco siding.

Why would I want to ruin the look of my off-white house with repeating brown vertical stripes!

I am doing columns and there will probably have to be some sort of railing. I thought that would help with the “cut in half” look. And also the when the grading is complete and the landscape.

Yes, you will need a railing. Make sure the columns are large enough, and they should support a visible beam.

Landscape is vital to help minimize the amount of foundation showing. Do you have a grading and landscaping plan?

What about steps/path to the door?

So yall are saying you’re not supposed to do stone like this?

People have been mixing stone and brick for a long time. You are free to do whatever you like -- no architectural police will visit.

The trend today is to apply random bits of stone like your image shows. Most want to follow the current trend, short hair will grow, long hair can be cut -- will you remodel when your house is no longer trendy?

Your house doesn't need anything extra. It does need attention to detail.

Good design on the left, bad design on the right.

This is more typical where you have a stone foundation made of large blocks, with brick above.
