You could match the door to the shutter color or go simple with black. Another option would be to go with a dark brown. It will compliment the shutters and still blend nicely with the house but isnt as dramatic as pure black. -Kristen Vanderbeck at Design Spree

I was going to suggest a teal or aqua.

Thanks everyone, the shutters are definitely plum color (think I threw you off saying brown base), they are a mutated plum...not an easter purple color. I'll post pic if I can. The green color interests me. Black would work, but is kind of conservative. The plum swatch is the first one on the left. We want to replace our old colonial blue (dated) shutters to a more modern color and I'm partial to the purple's. Also, the huge and ugly white garage doors may need painting, also? I don't want them the door/shutter colors as they'd detract from the house. I was thinking leaving them white or painting them the same shade of grey as the house so they just faded away. Suggestions would be helpful regarding this also.

Better pic of the house. We were also going to add a white vinyl door surround to give the front more visual interest, replace old brass fixtures with larger black ones, remove rusted hand rails, and power wash front stairs (ugly, I know).

I would leave the garage doors white and keep it simple.
