Should my rugs match?

last year

We are moving in

to an open concept home and I bought rugs that are flipped in color scheme to define the dining room from the living room

While I like them both Im starting to think I should have bought the matching beige one for the dining space.

What do you think?

Keep the flipped or match with the living room rug?

fyi i can only get the beige version as they dont sell a big enough blue version.

What you have doesn't work for me.

I would skip the rug under the table. Put felt glides under the chairs legs.

What chispa said ^^^ . No rug under the dining table, no need for one, and yes felt pads under the legs of table and chairs. Ours has always been like this, no problem.

IMO switch what you have first before doing anything. I think the contrast in both spaces could work.

    A better view

some will suggest not to use a rug but i like them so one will be used

I agree with keeping just the living room rug.

If you must have a dining space rug, I would get a solid that picks up one of colors from the beigr rug. Hard to see the actual colors in that rug.

Try the dark rug with the sofa and the light rug under the dark dining room furniture; and reverse the sofa so it is back to the dining area.

I like the turn of the century oak piece, but put it on the wall in the living area where that tiny piece is.

Window treatments will add color and texture to the room. This from etsy.com.

I imagine a tv will go over the console? If so, is there any way that you could place your tv on your antique piece? It would fill up that blank wall nicely and be a spectacular TV stand!

Even if you don't plan a TV there, then the antique piece would still look great on that wall. I agree the dark and light rugs don't work well, though switching them might be better. If you want a rug in the dining room, I would get one either matching the living room or another very light one that coordinates and complements the other.

What is the brand and name of the beige rug? I tried to search with Google Image search, but the image is not clear enough to identify the rug

You don't have to match the rugs. There are plenty of rugs you can select that will play nice together in the room.

The dark rug under the dark dining table throws the room off balance anyway.

Is there any chance the sideboard with the hutch can be moved to the last remaining wall in the dining room?

Why did you select rugs with beige and blue, when your sectional appears to be beige and green??????

I think it is fine to have mismatched rugs, I just don't like those two together. There is too much of a contrast - nothing complimentary between the two.

Complementary rugs are the best idea. Finding two with similar features (both Persian, Chinese, Oushak) and using some similar colors is a good idea. Hard to do, but good idea.

I know because I’m slowly getting my rugs and runners to work together and I’m using mostly Turkish Oushak rugs in blues and greens - and it’s hard.

You nailed it simply, just lovely!

When I first saw the post, I was like, "Definitely just one rug there." But then I saw Simply's idea and now I love it. I would also enjoy a rug under my dining table and the cozy feeling on my feel while eating, so now I'm swayed to this two complimentary rug suggestion.
