Muddled Remodel Work - 60s Ranch Style Home Exterior

last year

Hi everyone, I've posted before re: the exterior of the ranch style home we are buying. We are wanting to lighten all trim on the exterior of home. This specific back half of the house has a remodeled garage entry point with some pretty hideous siding and old windows and very functional but ugly carport. New siding suggestions, color scheme, fill in with brick (although this brick will be hard to match), etc. Open to suggestions as we are pretty stumped.

You said this is a remodeled "garage entry point." Is that space still functioning as a garage or storage space? Or has it been converted to living space?

Can you post another picture that also shows the left side of the house so the we can have a full view since we are not on site to see the house.

That being said, are you planning on replacing the all windows? perhaps paint the siding? Just a bit more info to go by for further constructive suggestions.

Ary you where you can take and post images instead of using google street view?

I'd work to unify the space. Keep the color dark to help the work recede.

Here are best side views I have and the front so you can understand the flow of the house.

The space behind the carport is now a hallway/living space.

We are willing to replace windows.

We are willing to replace several windows along the stretch of the side house.

PPF's roof extension would do a lot to improve the look. Beyond that, I would look at landscaping. Use potted plants and outdoor furniture to turn the pavement in front of the living space into patio living space, not driveway. If you have the budget, consider removing a chunk of that driveway and converting to a garden bed. It's the concrete driveway running right up to the house that makes everything so jumbled and "remuddled."

I find the brown dreary, but I think you took the pic on a dreary day. I'd paint the siding cream. If you made the trim and columns on the carport brown, it would fit in better.

You have a lot of concrete in front of your house. I'd remove it in front of the brown section. If you want to keep some for a porch, put some chairs there and put grass or garden on the rest.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but comparing the last picture you posted with the 1st ones you posted I'm understanding that the 1st pictures are of the backyard with the acces to the carport?

Extending the roof over the carport would certainly make it look integrated with the house. In doing so I would suggest you go for a grey tone to coordinate with the dark gray in the bricks.

I also suggest you enlarge the columns of the carport. You can replace your windows so that they all match in style, I've added flower boxes on the 2 windows on the right that can sit on the concrete base.

This is wonderful, thank you all for the input and this visual really, really helps.

The 1st pictures are of the side yard and are the back half of house where there is the carport.

The home is shaped as an L on the lot as shown here. Covered porch is front yard.
