If I look at anymore RUGS my eyes might explode

Hi All,
Really would appreciate some help!
We are in the process of re-doing/completing both our living room and dining room. Living room to be eclectic and maximalist. Dining to be more neutral/calm. It's an L shape room so the rugs must be complimentary.
For the living room, I'm OBSESSED with the Ruggable Forest Green Blackthorn rug. Lord knows it's tough to match with the furniture, esthetic and overall vibe(s) we're going for.
Any thoughts/design suggestions for a neutral-ish dining rug that would help tie everything together would be so very appreciated. If it's possible with the blackthorn.
Thanks so much in advance!
Notes:

  • I do not wish for the blue accent color to take over the room. My thought process on the blackthorn is it would warm the space/introduce other colors. Would like whatever rug is chosen to ground that part of the room.
  • Throw pillows and art is still all TBD. The Blackthorn would replace the rug in the photos (I don't like it at all.
  • I'm located in Canada so preferably

I wouldn't put a rug in the DR. I'd just add some accents that pick up the colors in the rug.

You can order the green Blackthorn rug, then see if you want to pick up the tan or terracotta color in it with the dining room rug. There are several more Morris and Co. Ruggables that are nearly neutral tan or terracotta that would probably go beautifully with your terracotta buffet and your tan leather sofas.

Not sure what is driving that rug choice but hey order it and see, I do not like rugs in DRs so leave that alone . I see nothing maximaistic about your space as you show it and I like the rug you have .

I think you also need to address the size of the living room rug. It seems the rug is very narrow for the room and the seating is scrunched to the left side of the room. Give more breathing room to that area. You need a bigger rug.

I would use the forest green rug in the dining room and a plain or very muted pattern in cream or off-white color for the living room.

As i look around....you have three side tables on the wall. Move the brown credenza into the dining room. Move the white credenza from the dining room to use as a sofa back under the window. Remove the VanGogh print and the table under it. Remove the bike. This will give you more space fot the seating and big rug.

Replace the two blue dining chairs.

Order the smallest rug available as a sample. Easier to return then order the big one.

How much of the current furniture is staying, with your re-do? Because I really wouldn't pair a green rug with those blue chairs. That's too much going on, but not in an attractive maximilist way. Personally I love the blue dining chairs, especially as they "rhyme" with the living room chairs.

I also agree with tracefloyd that it's too many tables. I would leave the brown credenza where it is though. Your dining room looks too narrow for a buffet that sits parralel to the table. That location between the two spaces gives you a buffet that doesn't make seating uncomfortably tight. Put the white credenze behind the sofa where tracefloyd suggested--it's looks very shallow and perfect for that use. A large piece of art on the dining wall would make the room look finished but calm, no rug needed.

Hi Taylor! lol that rug is MAGICAL and your dining room rug need only be terracotta to compliment that lovely green! Oh lol! it’s nearly British Racing Green, lol WELL DONE!

And if you abandon the blue (even if in accents) i must rummage through the closet, find my one pair of sensible boots, march to Canada and retrieve those stunning blue chairs!

Trick to ameliorating blue in interiors is brass or copper accents, you are already there!

Your picks are fantastic, keep up the good work, and keep us posted! Have fun! ❤️

If you want the dining room to be more 'calm', adding a rug isn't going to accomplish that. The room needs some serious editing, not more stuff. Looks too narrow for that credenza and there are two too many plants. (Perhaps the photo is distorted and the room looks wider IRL?) And, I'm having trouble getting past those ceiling beams that are encroaching on the door casings. I would also look for a more airy/ open light fixture.

I love your rug. I'd get the same one for the dining room.

YOu need boots to come to Canada really you need to study a bit about the neighbor to the North . We have seasons just like many states where boots are not needed

But she’s marching to Canada, so she will need the boots! 😂

If you don't want the blue to take over, you could easily do a solid plain rug, a rug with a little blue or a rug with a little orange to bring in that color to the dining room area. Here are just a few images with rugs that might work for you in your dining room area:
