inside glass or clip on window grills? help please!

last year

Hi! Adding an addition onto my home and deciding on windows now. The real divided pane windows are out of our budget, would you go for the inside the glass grill or add wooden clip on grills? I much prefer the look of the dividers on the outside of the glass, but I don’t have experience with how the clip ons actually look. We are planning on Anderson 400 double hung with white colonial style grids.
Thanks!

I like the removable ones that clip on to make cleaning easier and if you ever want to change the look just remove the grids.

Thank you! How closely do you have to look to tell they are clip ins?

Probably right up to the window and honestly why do you care

The clip in is fine, and to me inside the window looks as faux as it is.

What are the REST of your windows? True divided lights? Something else? I ask as you said...........

"How closely do you have to look to tell they are clip ins?"

I doubt you can tell from a drive by....when washing the windows? yes.

Your name could be Darien..or you could be located in Darien Conn, and adding onto an historic home: )

Many of them are true divided, old, wooden ones that have been painted many times. Some are newer wood divided panes. It’s kind of a mishmash from the original house and an addition that was added before we bought it. That is why I really want the look of wood true divided panes and am looking at the clip ons. I’ve just never seen them in person that I noticed.

Grids between glass look completely fake and don’t fool anyone, especially next to real divided light windows. Grids on the interior only are only slightly better- at least they can be painted. In the long term scheme are sdl windows that much more money for something you look at every day and should last fifty years?

You could show some pics....what you have, what you're adding to what?

The addition is separate from the other windows, but I did take some pics of the closest ones. I also took a pic of half of the addition, the other half is a mirror image of the first. It’s 16 windows and 2 patio sliding doors.

I understand it’s the kind of thing that we should just do it because it will last so long but it’s really out of the budget right now.

Omg I just realized my kitchen window is not real divided panes. I never noticed and I stare at the window constantly lol.

Although to be honest I just thought all window grills were decorative I didn’t know they were actually divided panes until yesterday (don’t just me 🫣)

I havegrids between the glass but they are not flat, which look awfully fake. Mine are contoured and you have to get very close to realize they are not real dividers. They tilt in and are easy to clean.

LOL.......Your kitchen clean up must be super quick?!

If you didn't notice that one, you won't notice the rest: )
