garage door and side entry door next to each other? What color?

last year

I have to get my side entry door ordered as my contractor wants to move on with the siding and wants the entry door in. Trim is same color as siding. We are out in the country and this end of the house is very much first thing you see. The front has a really nice door with side lights and transom under a very large front porch with 8" cedar posts. All area around the house will have new hardscape in the next year. I don't plan to put up shutters at this time.

The new siding has been started on the right side of the garage. Lights are staying.

My side door choices are limited in wood grain fiberglass since it is a 32" door. I want a half rectangular glass.

Thanks!

From the one photo you are showing us, I would paint the side door and garage door the same color as the siding. Not sure you want to call attention to it.

Two ways to treat garage: lessen its impact/attention by painting same color as siding. Or…with your cedar posts and a fiberglass wood grain side door, play into that feel with a cedar pergola. It would be a great addition, will make your home stand out and paint the garage door the same as siding or a cream (suggest testing). What is your front door like?

Maureen front door is dark walnut color/ or was, I need to refinish or replace but it is a "fancy" door with side lights and transom. You can't see it when looking at the garage end.

tracefloyd, I am replacing both of those doors, side and garage. Just ordered the side door today, dark oak like this ...YIKES I am so glad I checked these responses. I ordered a steel door instead of wood grain fiberglass by mistake!! They are going to get it swapped out for me, just got off the phone. Looks like my only option for prefinished is Prairie

Brown or Black. Don't want black. and I am pretty sure I don't want steel again.

    THANK YOU!

Maureen, I love the garage trellis but that will have to come later for sure.

I deleted my rambling comment but thanks for the reply. If you tried to post a pic of the Dark Oak door it didn't load...wait for the image to undim before hitting Submit.

Is this the color for the garage door? Prairie Brown? What color is the front door?

tracefloyd thank you. I tried to post a picture and it kept doing some crazy thing, but yes that door but with a half glass with internal cross grille. Yours shown It is alot less than our store! I went into the store today to have them swap the steel door I accidently ordered for the fiberglass. He showed me that prairie brown door in a different size and glass and wow that color is not nice. The colors are extremely limited in the fiberglass. He somehow convinced me that steel would be just as good, and the steel dark oak had a wood grain. They all look cheap to me but I don't want to put a real wood in with the maintenance. I decided to just keep the one that I ordered wrong. He said they would let me exchange if I don't like it but I don't know what i'd exchange it for without painting. I figure I can find a garage door color in the oak much easier.

So steel wood like this is the one going in? My point is you want to balance the look of three doors with three different woods carefully. Even if you can't see all of them at once.

Maybe have to use paint on the garage door or front door if need be. If the front door is real Walnut wood then yes, refinish it in woodstain.

Update on progress so hope I'm on the right track - we installed the door in a dark oak. Has black cross grille inside - just one cross so not real prominent. Windows on right side of garage are 9-lite grilles.

I am ready to replace garage door and the lanterns. Keep in mind the fence will be gone, door step replaced, all hardscape is going to change next year.

Thinking this design for lanterns or no? Black or bronze? The current ones are large, about 18" long with a base that is too big.

Can you add any photos of the front door here?

Ask him to side everything else and leave the siding area between the garage and the corner off, swap the door, and finish a few pieces of siding around it. Might cost you a few dollars extra for a guy to return and finish it or if the new door comes from the same manufacturer let him finish the siding and order just the door you want without the frame and swap doors.

Will suggest you give some thought to switching out the garage door with one that has lites (windows). Nothing give depth to a flat fascade with a garage door like having lites.
