Deep vein on leathered Taj Mahal - yes or no?

last year

We are purchasing 3 slabs of Taj Mahal leathered quartzite. One of them had a deep vein. My husband liked it because he thought it added character, but I am unsure if it has been filled or if it would be better to go with a more subtle slab.

Option A: Character Slab with Vein

Option B: This is the more subtle slab

Yes go with the deep vein
No keep it subtle

In my remodels...I always try to give my husband input. I get my way with the design, he gets to put in subtle details. If it makes him happy...tell him you LOVE it!

The reason I love real stone is the character of the slabs but I agree when choosing slabs the layout of the counter is really important. That one with the deep vien IMO belongs on an island as one piece and if you have a kitchen with corners then choose simpler slabs if no island .. The best is to bring a template to the stone yard it does not have to be perfct but it will help see how the slabs will go together . I only work with stone yards that have the fabricator on staff then the layouts are discussed at the same time as the slabs are chosen . From what I understand this is not the norm in the US

Deeply veined or patterned countertops can easily become distracting and dated. My preference is more towards subtle.

I love real stone but o would not want that inclusion in my counter- hard to clean and risks getting discolored. If he loves it use this piece as backsplash.

Hard to say without seeing it and feeling it in person. Would also depend on where it ends up in the layout, as I would not want it in a major work area, but middle of the island would be fine.

I like a vein and some pattern. That , however, looks like a potential problem. Is that more of a crevice? Will it flake or chip off with wear? Can food particles get stuck there and make it difficult to clean? If none of that is a problem - then go for it!

Are the three slabs from the same rock? Should be marked on the edge. It's important.

Thank you everyone for your comments. @elcieg The slabs are from the same rock. There were about 9 slabs available, the first two were book matched and more subtle. This is the third with the vein and then there are 2 more available to us that are more subtle.

If you are using Taj for the backsplash, you could put this piece there (where it doesn't get used much) and it could add the interest your husband appreciates. Often times stone yards will blue tape a potential layout on a slab your considering if you bring measurements.

Did you ever install this? We are looking at a piece that has the same vein but bigger.
