What rug size should I go with: 9x12 or 8 x 10??

Hi, I'm having a dilemma. I bought this rug, 9x12, yesterday for my living room that is in my kitchen and don't know if I chose a size too big! Do you think it's too big for the area? I have also a dining room area right next to it... I've moved the wood console on the left and will move also the frame if I decide to keep the rug. I will also buy a black floor lamp that I will put next to the sofa. Knowing all of this, should I go with a smaller size 8x10, same rug??! Is the living room area too big knowing that the dining room area is smaller, is it a problem if the area proportions are not equal? Also, I think that if I go with the 8x10 the 2 black poufs will be a bit out of the rug is that ok? Thank you very much in advance for your advices, it will be very appreciated! Regards

If you can't move the white chairs back further then an 8 X 10 would be better. It's OK if only the front legs of some or all of the pieces of furniture are on the rug. None of your pictures show what the white chairs are backing up to, but it does look like you don't have a lot of space.

Get the cabinet on the back wall in the right location

Add a minimal floor lamp to the corner

Select a rug that is 6x9 for this area. It doesn't appear you have the space for 8x10

Is that the best layout for your living area? Have you tried the chairs or sofa facing the slider?

INwould remove the cabinet put the 2 black stools there and you need lighting so IMO the rug you have is the right size since it allows for the floor lamp beside the sofa and an end table and lamp between the 2 white chairs Those stools just crowd the space . If you need a spot to put things on in the DR a small console would be better that little cabinet really does not fit in your style . Those stools IMO only added when you have a crowd so maybe actually put away unless needed . The space is crowded even without them .

I've added 2 more pictures so that you can have a better understanding of the whole space!! thank you again for taking the time to answer me

IMO - It looks better without a rug.

I'd still try moving that sofa to where the 2 black ottomans are and move that console under the window.

That rug looks great and is the perfect size to define your living area! All that’s needed is to pull your two chairs back a foot or so.
I do agree the brown console table or buffet on back wall should be moved somewhere else and the picture to the right of it isn’t centered over anything. Maybe you can find a place for the picture somewhere else.
    Great job!!!!

Try this idea before you return the rug.

First, center the rug on the slider. Right now it is too close to the wall.

Position the sofa so it is facing the sliders; put front legs on the rug.

Now pull out the dining table a couple of feet. With the sofa back to the table/chairs is there room enough to be seated? If not put more of the sofa on the rug.

Either way, put the two coffee tables in front of the sofa and one white chair each on either side of the tables. All living room furniture is on the rug.

This means the wood piece and the two black stools have to go.
