Ideas for a family room

last year

Hi.

I’m looking for some ideas to upgrade a family room/use to be a bedroom.

I have a couple of photos that show what the family room looks like with a chimney.

Any ideas will help.

Is your question you want to use this room as a family room? or as a bedroom? DRaw a floor plan of the room and label doors, windows, FP. Then state what needs to be in the room such as TV. How many people will be using the room?

Initially this room was a bedroom but the previous owners turned into a family room.

Thank you. I just want to get some ideas as to what kind of flooring to put in, if I need to put trimming around the windows, etc.

I know that the chimney for sure has to be updated but I’m trying how to turn into a family room being that it was a bedroom before.

Whats wrong with the flooring in there now. It appears nice in the pictures. Is it the same flooring that is in other rooms? If so, I would keep the flooring. Are you calling the fireplace a chimney? I dont see any thing else in the room, that could be a chimney. It looks like a family room to me. Your decor, will make it more so.

WE need to see the entire room - all 4 walls. I agree with @cat_ky about the flooring. It look great. How can we talk about windows which we cannot see them? Is that jut out area a closet or bathroom?

We need to see more pictures, all 4 walls. From the 2 you posted we cannot tell where the fireplace is in relation to the entire room. Even better if you can also post a hand drawn floor plan showing dimensions including placement of doors, windows, entrance(s) to the room.

What do you mean about the chimney having to be upgraded? Do you mean the previous owners made the fireplace non-functional by closing the chimney?

All you need to do to use it as a bedroom, is to put a bed in it. As long as there is a wall and door separating it from other bedrooms and the public living space. It doesn't need flooring or anything done with the fireplace. One of my favorite old and slightly weird homes that I've lived in had a fireplace in one of the bedrooms.
