Choose a color from the counter but make sure you coordinate it with the floor

I agree, its a bit boring, but, I think, maybe you could leave the paint, and add some color in art work, and a few accessories. Not necessarily the red like I see in one area. Maybe even a brighter area rug, under your table, and a runner by the sink.

Greige, taupe or off-white would work good.

I would go with bigger rug. Your is too small.
