That's one way to do it or just hire a pro to come in with the proper equipment and chemicals to do a deep clean.

I think you may be a little aggressive with the amount of water. Most people clean hardwood flooring regularly and use a damp mop. You will end up with water stains on the base trim, that's borderline flood amount of water.

A damp mop, I have a spray bottle, with water in it, and a few drops of dawn. I use the mops where you put a clean head on every time you use them. (washable heads though), and that works for every floor in my house. If thats your floor above, I surely hope you didnt do any damage, because, hardwood should never be that wet.

^That is a good way to void all warranties and RUIN floors and cabinets, and everything else wood. That's moisture damage just waiting to show up. Wet mopping is NEVER EVER acceptable. A damp mop, with lots of cleaning in between swipes. Damp is defined as wrung out so that zero moisture drips from it, and it feels moist, but not wet.
