Toto Nexus, Carlyle II, or Carlyle II 1G toilet? MaP ratings?

last year
last modified: last year

I had selected the Toto one-piece Carlyle II toilet to replace my 10-year old Toto Aimes toilet. Now I am rethinking this choice. There are two versions of the Carlyle II, and a plumbing store salesperson recommended the latest one-piece Nexus, instead.

I have had no clogging with the Aimes toilet, but it often needs 2 or 3 flushes to clear the sides. Also, the velcro sides are iffy, taking away from the skirted look.

I want to get the best flushability. I like the sleek look of the Nexus skirt, but I have read complaints about the Nexus being difficult to install. The Carlyle II has a rounded cover on the tank, so nothing can be placed there; the Nexus tank cover is flat, so can place an extra TP roll there.

Both the Nexus and the Carlyle II 1G are Premium Maximum Performance (MaP) - rated, which means they meet or exceed the MaP rating >= 600 and use no more than 1.1 gallons (4 liters of water) per flush. The Nexus 1-piece meets the minimal standard rating, with MaP >= 600. The Carlyle II 1G has a higher rating, MaP >= 800

Neither the Aimes nor the Carlyle II (1.28 GPF) meet the 1.1g restriction to make the Premium rating list. The Aimes has a flush rating >= 800; the Carlyle II (1.28 GPF) has the highest rating, at MaP >= 1000.

I am in CA, so some models are restricted for water conservation.

Any experience with the latest Nexus (released in 2019)? Carlyle II 1G versus Carlyle II 1.28 GPF?
