Blum LegraBox or All Wood Box

last year

We are looking at a custom kitchen and decided on draw constuction. Our options are the Blum LegraBox or a all wood box either Baltic Birch or solid maple. I am hearing that the LegraBox is more costly but for the life of me I cannot understand why. Does anyone have any idea why this is so? It would seem like the cabinet maker spends less time with a Legrabox as the draw sides and undermount slides are included. I can purchase a Legrsbox kit for about $150 or so depending on size and weight load. Any opions are greatly appreciated

Legrabox all the way. More storage, and better movement.

I'm not sure why you think it has more storage. Can you amplify on that? It looks like I can buy a LegraBox kit for $125. That seems like a good deal given that it included the undermount glides. A typical pair of Blum Movento glides are like $40, just for the glides

The Blum LegraBox doesn't seem like a very good deal. The Blum 22" x 5-1/16" Legrabox includes only the sides and slides for $90 while the similar IKEA MAXIMERA 21 3/8" x 5 5/8" also includes the bottom and back for $48. Attach the front and you're done.

    Guys,

I'm trying to understand why the cabinet company is upcharging for a LegraBox vs their solid maple wood box. Seems to me that the Legrabox should be less money while they are asking 2x. Please, anyone?

Then buy the wood box you seem to prefer? You’ve seen and touched both and prefer the less expensive option. Hurrah!

Because the LABOR to install all of that is more. LABOR is always the biggest portion of any product.

LOL… First, it isn’t. Second, it’s a drawer box, quality beyond what is required for a drawer box is just waste. Finally, if you want to be a drawer box snob, then Salice Lineabox and Grass Vionaro are both much better than Blum.

It’s a drawer box... wood is more than fine. The various drawer systems are largely designed for ultra-modern kitchens that want to avoid the appearance of wood drawers.

They don’t offer any advantage over well made plywood boxes.

I have had non wood drawers with Blum hardware from Ikea for years I see no point actually in wood drawers . I do not have experinece with those particular pieces but maybe ask your cabinet maker why . I guess you could just buy the kits and add the stuff. This is like asking why Volvo is more than a Kia they are both cars that do really the same thing .

FYI a cabinet maker charges a huge amount for soft close I have had soft close from Ikea for years at $6 a drawer I run a catering biz so the drawers are used a lot not one issue in 18 yrs. BTW Blum hardware from Ikea was around long ago and still stands the test of time

For those who end up here just like me:

MAXIMERA drawers with a depth of 45 and 60 cm and a width of 40/60/80 cm can carry a maximum load of 25 kg.

With the Blum Legrabox, you can choose between a load capacity of 40 kg or 70 kg.
