Liebherr HCB 1560 fridge - can’t get freezer drawers to open

Hi, I have the HCB 1560 fridge and for the life of me can’t get the freezer drawers to open. Fridge opens and works fine. Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you

Seeing that nobody has responded yet, let me bump your thread so it will continue to be seen and hopefully get more responses.

First, a question: Is this HCB1560 a new-to-you unit or is one you've had for a while without problems? (I ask because, AFAIK, the HCB1560 model was discontinued a few years ago.) Did you just move into a new place and this is the first time you've tried to open the freezer drawers? Or, has the unit been working well for you up until now and the drawers suddenly will not open?

The one instance I've seen was of the latter type, about a dozen or so years ago. A friend with a similar problem called me on Labor Day weekend. I searched online and found a number of gardebweb posts about Liebherr fridges which pointed to ice that can build up in the freezer compartment and block the drawer rails. IIRC. we wound up unplugging the whole unit, moving all the fridge stuff to coolers and waiting for something like seven or eight hours for the freezer to defrost enough for the the drawer(s) to be pried open. We were then able to salvage most of what was in the freezer. We then defrosted the freezer compartment completely with a floor fan. We got the unit back to functioning until it could be serviced sometime the following week. As best I recall, the the problem turned out to be a combination of a plugged condensate drain (goop can build up in it) and a problem with a failed defrost cycle. (Don't remember if it was the defrost heater or the logic board.)

Thanks so much for the message. This is a home that we moved into and the refrigerator was there and the first time we tried to open it, noted this issue. I tried switching off the power to the refrigerator for 48 hours, but still no luck with the drawer opening. Maybe that wasn’t long enough to defrost? Not really sure. What else to do

So, the fridge sat powered on but unused for a quite while before you moved in? Could well be an ice build-up. If I remember the old threads, some folks found the ice had frozen along the door seal as well as the rails and some of them found heating the drawer seal with a blow dryer helped release the drawer.

Just tried searching for the old threads but am only finding a couple. This onefound that some empty Liebherrs freezer drawers would open only when pulled from the very middle of the handle but functioned fine when the drawer was actually loaded. This onediscussed freezer ice buildups with several suggested causes most of which required a Liebherr servicer.

Maybe you can find a Liebherr servicer tomorrow?
