Landmark Moire Black shingles vs Charcoal black

last year

Hello, we are getting a new roof on our house and we’re wanting to go with a black shingle this time. We have two choose from our roofing the Landmark Moire Black vs the Charcoal black however we really haven’t been able to find photos online of houses with these roofs and was wanting to see if anyone on here may have used them and had photos and advice

Maybe a good plan would be to post those choices here to begin with . Unless someone else has your exaxct house in your place seeing them on there is pretty useless .

I would pick the lighter of the two. Black is a severe color and may not have any variation on the roof. You may want to think about the aethetics of putting such a dark color on the roof of your home. Also, since your home is one level, getting a black roof may visually shorten it.

Go with the lighter. Black will be very drastic on a one level house with your brick tones.

, solid black looks like rolled roofing. you need a variation in shades.

    and what about bird poop?

Agree black van be severe/harsh and pull a lot of focus, especially on a long, low-ish roofline. Though still dark, charcoal could be a better choice and work well with the brick.

ETA - I’d stay away with shingles with a lot of variegation. It can often look `busy with brick. I found this regarding the two choices you mentioned…FWIW.

If the color of your brickwork is multicolored or has a busy pattern, moire black would be the better choice. Its uniform color will complement the exterior of the home. A shade with a lot of variation, like charcoal, would compete rather than complement.

Allow all exterior aspects of your home to guide you in your choice of shingle color. It should not clash with external features like shutters, windows, or siding.

A more subtle exterior finish will look good with shingles more varied in color, like charcoal black. The different tones will pick up the colors of the windows, shutters, and other features and accentuate the appearance.

I'd consider another color -- but I'm not sure which one, and painting the gutters and shutters.

Get some shingle samples and see how they look against your brick.

And you really need some landscaping!

Black is too dark. I'd suggest Pewterwood. And I would repaint the shutters also in a charcoal gray instead.

Ask your roofer if he can provide addresses for roofs they’ve done in those colors. You might also contact the shingle supplier as they might have pics or support.

The manufacturers have roof visualizers on their website.

We have a very big roof on a brick home. I got addresses of homes with the colors we considered and it made a big difference to me. I was more confident in my final choice because I saw all the brown shingles in real life. It was impossible to pick from the tiny shingle samples they show you.

@BeverlyFLADeziner is right. The black will look severe. Choosing deep charcoal (and repainting your shutters) will look better.

Here is my house and roof. It looks different on cloudy days vs. sunny days too.

I think black is a bit harsh with the brick but maybe a roof with abit more brown in the color or at least that Pewterwood color / I do not like the shutters painted or not on thta house but what is really missing is landscaping .

Black just doesn't look good with the brick. The shutters shouldn't be black either. Just because black roofs are "in" now doesn't mean it's right for your house.

Here's some additional options. (click photo to enlarge) Your house has great windows and symmetry. Adding more landscape would add to the street appeal.

I like Beverly’s suggestion of Pewterwood with the charcoal shutters.

I agree with @BeverlyFLADeziner that Pewterwood would be a better colour choice. I would also replace the 2 sconces with larger ones, paint the storm door the same colour as the door and improve the landscaping. Store your hose in a box instead of hanging it on the bricks in the front of the house.
