Just got a lovely bouquet of peonies. They look wonderful. They are already *huge* and I'm sure will open soon. One of my favorite flowers...I had peonies star in my wedding! They will be the centerpiece of the flowers I've received. I am so grateful to you all for so many things, including the well wishes while I'm laid up. You guys are the *best ever*. Special thanks to the GW Community Chest Chair....truly the most thoughtful gift giver ever!

Thank you again....they must be working....feeling better already!!

I hope you continue on a rapid road to recovery. Remember to post a photo when those beautiful peonies are fully open. Just think of their lovely aroma.

Peonies are the perfect flower to give someone who is recovering from surgery. In Greek mythology they're associated with healing properties and named for Paeon, who was a physician to the Gods. I only know this because I once had a T shirt with a beautiful red peony on the front and that was the inscription underneath.

@Annie Deighnaugh Beautiful! A favorite restaurant when in NH was The Woodshed in Moultonborough and that is where I first saw the ants in action. Their wood fence winding driveway lined with these beauties.

FYI, you may want to remove the guard petals on the outer rim of the buds? I think florists ship peonies with them for protection in transit. : )

Getting bigger every day. I didn't want to remove the guard petals as they seem very attached, but I did push them back so they aren't hindering the blossoms from opening. So lovely! Like a gift that you unwrap slowly, it always surprised me every day.

    Thank you all!

Annie, how has your recovery progressed?

    Thanks jb for asking.

Dr. said now that I'm passed 6 weeks, actually at 7 now, risk of dislocation has dropped dramatically. I'm able to do anything I want as long as I am able....so listen to my body. He said just don't really torque or twist the leg. Yesterday with the PT I got on the floor! Such a delight to lay completely flat on the floor again ...something I've not done in years! Still a very sore IT band which they say takes time. Going upstairs is still a bit challenging for that leg, though going down is working well.

I'm still finding gaining distance in walking a challenge...not much past 1/2 mile yet, though the weather isn't conducive to being outside anyway. But for distance walking, I still find the cane helps keep me from gimping when I get tired. Getting up from sitting for a long time is still painful. But once I get going, it improves. DH and friends have remarked though on how I'm no longer limping like I used to. Ice is still my friend.

Also, it wasn't just my hip, but my back too. I'm finding the numbness and tingling in my right foot has really dissipated...something I've been dealing with for years. My back issues aren't gone, but are better. As my psoas releases more, my back will probably improve more too.

So there are clear areas of massive improvement, others still need work, but coming along nicely. Thanks!

Glad to hear about your good progress, Annie.

I missed this post last month. I was probably on vacation.

Glad you enjoyed the flowers! Peonies are my favorite too. There's something special about them. And mtn is truly the best.

Good to hear your recovery is progressing well. Healing thoughts for a full recovery and no pain soon.

That’s excellent news, Annie! My hip replacement is in May, and I have been advised that because I am unusually flexible(who knew?), I am more vulnerable for hip dislocation, afterwards.

What a truly wonderful feeling, to know youre healing!! Keep up the adventure!

Annie, so happy to hear you’re much better.

With new guidelines regarding use of ice (or rather against use of ice) after the first few days or week or so, my PT and my massage therapist recommended I try a heating pad a few times a day. They cautioned me to set a timer and only use it for 20 minutes at a time as there would be diminishing returns after that. It was remarkably more effective for me.

Also, when I started walking more outside, I used my hiking poles instead of a cane and found they worked much better for me.
