What's your favorite Cherry Tomato to grow and why?

Hi everyone! I would love to hear about your favorite Cherry Tomato to grow and why is it your favorite? To be honest, I do not know much about Cherry tomatoes and value your feedback! I recently ordered the chocolate Cherry Tomato and waiting for it to arrive. There are so many Cherry tomatoes to choose from! What's your favorite? 🥰

Sungold. It's prolific, fast to harvest, resistant to splitting and tastes like tomato candy!!

Yes, Sungold. And, for a red cherry tomato, I like Sweet 100.

I'm going to add my vote for Sungold. I did grow Black Cherry last year, though, and it was prolific.

I love Black Cherry -- it's large, tasty, and prolific! It's also very prone to cracking for me. :p

For small tomatoes, I grow Sungold (hybrid), Sweet 100 (hybrid), a red grape (from unknown heirloom seed that I saved ages ago), Black Cherry (heirloom), and occasionally Gold Nugget (heirloom). I like the variety of colors and flavors and they're all early to ripen for me.

I just remembered that I did an early tomato sampler about 10 years ago... I recognize Taxi (the yellow at 9 o'clock), then proceeding clockwise, I see red grape, black cherry, gold nugget, sungold, ... then the last two reds would be Stupice and perhaps Sophie's Choice. Aren't the colors pretty?

The Sungold hybrid is definitely a favorite for many I see! Happy to hear about some of the heirlooms too.

PM your sampler plate looks yummy! 😋

Rosella purple cherry - tastes like a caprese salad all wrapped up in a little cherry tomato!

I never met a cherry tomato I didn't like, is there even a bad one out there people grow?

I've done well with Sungold and Matt's Wild Cherry. I'm in Maine, 5b. Zones are important, because in Maine, we often suffer from cool night temps at the end of the summer, which causes blight. And we have a shorter season than places further south. What goes well in Louisiana is not at all guaranteed to do well in Maine.

Absolutely right. And being in z5, I choose the varieties I grow based on how quickly they can ripen. :p

I would appreciate a quick ripening Cherry Tomato too as we are always trying to get a harvest before the summer heat and bugs move in. I am looking for a good Cherry Tomato for an early spring planting for a quick harvest. I grow my other tomatoes in the Fall when the bugs aren't around.

Hands down for me = Sweet Million or Sweet 100's; I find them interchangeable.

Well yes, for me it's Yellow Pear, absolute waste of space. I always started some for a friend, but then she tried Sungold and some others and said "no thanks" to YP last year. :)

I grew Sugary this year and it's wonderful, another friend felt the same way. I also grew/grow Sungolds and I have grown Sweet 100 and Sweet Million.

Some really good cherry tomatoes here! I really like Sungolds but they split too easily. I've grown Sun Sugar the last two years and really like them. I've grown Black cherry in the past too and really like them. My two favorites are Matt's Wild Cherry and Tropical Sunset. Both are prolific and tasty!

I LOVED sungolds! I had to stop growing them after I retired cause I didn't have anywhere to share a gallon per week!

I don't really like most cherry tomatoes, but I adore a grape tomato named Valentine, from Johnny‘s Selected Seeds. It was bred to taste more like a regular tomato, so not as sweet as many cherry tomatoes. it matures before my regular tomatoes and keeps producing until it’s killed by frost. I only grow one plant, and it is so productive I've taken to making tomato sauce from the excess. it lasts for a couple weeks on the counter
