Bar cart/ dinning room re decorating

last modified: 10 months ago

I got a bar cart for Christmas and the only place I can put it is in the dinning room. I only have one big wall that it can sit either the side it is at or the other side of the sideboard.

The dinning room is open to the living room so I cant place it anywhere else

I want to figure out what to put on the other side of the wall? I dont like fake plants (or real ones for that matter)

I am planning on changing the light fixture and maybe the wall art too to add more black to the room. The accent wall (with darker paint) will match the other wall on the right by the sliding doors. I will be starting painting soon and I plan on putting scone lighting on each side of the wall art

Any input on how to style this dining room? Color of chandelier I was thinking black or gold.

Wall art ideas? and the other corner of the sideboard, what is best to put there ?

Thanks!

Thanks. I added a picture of the whole room and LR which is divided by a half wall. We are replacing the tv center with a white bigger built in style soon.

The accent wall will be gone. I am planning on painting all the walls the same color very soon.

I am changing the decor from farm house style which was when I moved in the house 10 years ago to more traditional/modern

The LR is tiny is ther ea reason toyou need a big DR and a tiny LR What is ithe wall containing ? IMO remove that wall and open up the LR I would not do a big built in on that wall but a nice long low cabinet with the TV wall mounted above it and very little display but maybe the TV offset and a nice piece of art I see a huge sofa that maybe is too big for the space but hard to tell . The less stuff sticking out from the walls the larger that space will feel but that wall if gone allows that LR to exapnd a bit into the DR space . OOPs I think I see a step down into the LR is that right?

You need to take the entire space into account, not just one element like your bar cart, which is fine where it is.

The problem that comes across in your question is lack of space. Several things make the room look and feel smaller in order of hassle and expense:

--multiple wall colors that chop up the space. Paint all the walls a warm white that harmonizes with dining rug background. Exception: dark accent wall in dark gray for TV all to make it recede.

--The entertainment/display shelves. As Patricia suggests, something long and low across that wall would work better and give you storage for media hardware, toys, etc. So: light, wide console cabinet; dark accent wall with art and floating shelves.

--Remove the low wall as Patricia suggests.

As for art, check out society6.com for subjects, sizes, and colors you like. Here's just one, but there are many others:

    Palettes for your room:

These abstract birches would look great in the living room or dining room, with the rug you have and possible future dark gray TV wall.

The living room is bigger than my dinning area by a bit. attached pic

We have no plans to remove the wall as the living room is sunk in and there is a step to go down to it.

The walls will be all painted same color soon

I already bought IKEA built in as we need tons of storage for the living room with kids to hide toys and activity stuff.

I attached something similar to what we will be putting up

My questions were mainly about the dinning room and what to put on the other side of the sideboard.

That pinky beige paint color doesn't work with the items you have selected.

I have changed your light fixture to something more contemporary with a better quality light.

Thanks I am trying to go lighter on the walls so they will be matching the Living room side walls in the dining room as it is dark already with floors and furniture.

The light fixture is a bit too modern for me.

IMO you don't need anything in the corner by the slider. It will start to look busy. Make sure the bar cart is centered on the wall it is on so it looks like it belongs on that wall and not the console wall. I don't think you need sconces either. Whether you keep this art or get new, when you paint hang the art a drop lower.

Consider adding a tall plant on the right of the sideboard. After the painting is done I would switch out the art over the sideboard to something more vertical, example below.
