Help with Blue and Red Retro Kitchen Design

last year

I'm in a long term rental and the retro kitchen is off. I don't know how to improve it - do I change the floor? Or paint the table and kitchen chairs? It doesn't feel cohesive to me

It is not for us to decide. You need to talk to the landlord about what you can do . Changing the floors is huge and I see really nothing wrong with them. You have red, white and blue so IMO embrace wht you have . I might just want a white table and chairs so maybe put those in storage and get a small new set you can take with you when you go. Waht is the rest of the living space like?Maybe a red, white and blue print roman shade for the window and be done. Maybe even this fabric and throw some yellow into the mix

I agree with Patricia. The room looks “off” with the cool blue and white tones on one side and “warm” red/black on the other. To balance change out table and chairs, maybe add red accessories on counter.

Thanks. I've heard people talk about peel and stick floor tile and removing when they leave. I agree with changing the table - when I put a white Christmas tablecloth (with small red berries and small green leaves) over it, it toned down a lot. I will look into a similar fabric for the blinds (and maybe a runner on the floor)

What will the landlord let you do?

Do not do peeland stick tile they are never a good ddiea even when perfectly installed This is really not horrible just a few tweaks will help.

the floor is actually the best part of the room.

I would change the light fixtures to semi flush mount with the tops open to disperse the light onto the ceiling so it reflects around the room. a large mod wall canvas above the table, and a fun, colorful window shade and a bright patterned seat cushion for the chairs.

What a cool space! Love the ref.

Are you allowed to paint? I would want the walls to be really white ( they look slightly off white on my screen ) along with the table and chairs ( or they can be all black - not a mix of color ) .

On the more risky side - I would color match the cabinets and paint the whole room that color and do the table in white.

    Good luck

I would get Very large art, large enough to cover the wall, to replace the art you have on the wall now. The art should be bold and encompass all the colors you already have in the room. Change the red seat pads to another color and that’s it.

I would let the refrigerator be the star and replace the dining furniture with white. I would also centre the pendant above the table and hang it 30 to 33 inches above the table top. Hang a large canvas on the wall above the table and perhaps install natural fibre roman shades on the windows.

The floor looks fine to me, the wall would be nice in a pure white but difficult to tell on my screen, they seem a bit of an off-white.

Pretty red, white and blue curtains would bring it all together.

Agreed. Changing the chairs to a light wood or white will make a huge difference.
