Road to California WITH PHOTOS

I'm really excited to be going to the Road to California quilt expo next Friday. The LQS here in Palm Desert chartered a bus to take us the 90 miles to Ontario, CA, where the expo is held. I've never been to a big quilt show like this before. I'm told that the quilts there come from all over the world and that they are incredible works of art. I can't wait!

Have fun, Lois! I’m planning to go to the AQS show in Daytona next month. I’m already working on my shopping list!

Happy for you, Lois. (I'm a little bit jealous until I think about my aching feet.)

Didn't buy a thing but lunch. I usually don't buy fabric until I have a plan for it. Here are a few photos from the show. This log cabin quilt was incredible. This is not striped fabric. Each log is a piece of fabric and every seam is quilted with stitch-in-the-ditch. The individual blocks were about 3" square. Some of the quilts were so ornate with embroidery, embellishments, and complex binding.

    More photos.

The first quilt is only about 18" square. The "frame" was unbelievable.

I think this first one was 'best of show.'

This last one might be my favorite.

Thanks for the pictures! I am amazed by many quilts, like the one with the frame. Where did the get the idea? I guess I don’t have an artist brain. Maybe I’ll make a teensy log cabin to use up my teensy scraps!

Looks like an amazing show! I don't have the patience (or maybe desire) to attempt some of those quilts! They are beautiful and I admire people that can do them.

Glad you had a good time!

Those quilts are spectacular. I'm not one of the people who can do them, though. That much detail isn't one of my strong suits.

The amount of detail and embellishment on some of the quilts went beyond attractive. It was as if the quilter just didn’t know when to stop.

i was just wondering how many of these you would put on a bed.

Not many, Theresa. There were not many that I would even want to make, but they were fun to look at.

We're having house guests for a week, so I had to put my quilting away. I've started working on quilt #4. It's a modern design, and I have 8 of 42 blocks finished.

Glad you enjoyed yourself at the show, Lois. I've been to the AQS show in Paducah, KY many times and it seems like every year there are more and more quilts with ever increasing amounts of embroidery, beading, and thread painting. I agree with you that some appear excessive. They are beautiful, but definitely not something I could ever undertake.

Thanks for sharing all of the pictures!
