What style influences are seen in my home's architecture?

last year

I have come to understand that any style can't be placed in any home. Like planting a farmhouse kitchen in the middle of a city home (yes, I was susceptible to the Joanna Gaines fever! 🤦‍♀️)
These photos are from the real estate listing when I purchased the home eight years ago. The decorating is NOT my style. I have changed the wall color and furnishings. But the architecture and fixtures have all remained - the granite countertops, tile, carpet, orange oak, light fixtures, hardware, etc.
I finally have the opportunity to renovate. I plan to change everything from the flooring on up through the hardware. But while updating, I know I need to stay congruent with the home's architecture. I am wondering what design style this is.

Builder traditional. A mish mash of elements that say 'home' and 'comfortable'- wood staircase, arches, front facing garage, random applications of stone, a dozen window sizes and shapes. Just stick with transitional elements in your updates and you will be fine.

It looks like a 1980s take on a traditional farmhouse design. I think all wood floors in a medium tone through out would suit the house. I might change the arch windows and garage doors if budget allows. The interior can either lean traditional or more modern eclectic really.

I am sure one of the frequent posting architects will chime in here.

I don't know what to describe your house as maybe just a colonial?

I find that the houses that I push for a specific style when it comes to decorating are the ones with a very strong character and style - craftsman, Victorian, Spanish, Antebellum, mid century modern etc. Location also comes into play - mountain, beach front, city, main street.

I find that homes without that strong character can be designed in the style you like with just a nod to the home's style. For instance, your home could be a farm house style, but not so far that the inside looks like in belongs in a barn. You could also do a more modern vibe, but soften the sometimes harsh angles or monotone coloring and sculptural feeling. You could also do a nice traditional space but with fresh updated finishes.

What is your style like? The pics read a bit 1990's to me and other than the kitchen, it looks like simple fixes.

I like arches. They are interesting elements. I don't see why so many people on Houzz want to remove every arch they see.

I love arches but not randomly placed Palladian windows. It screams builder grade to me. I would keep the interior archway!

First there is no reason to have the interior and exterior have the same style . Your home is IMO no particular style but maybe a bit of a take on farmhouse but that giant 2 storey garage is IMO the worst thing in the exterior. Waht is above that ?I for one do not like the arched window it makes no sense in the inside or the outside .neither does that arched opning inside . Waht do you want to change ? What style do tyou like. I like your bedroom

Neutral, non-offensive, 1980s, American builder grade home. You can make it anything you want so long as it is consistent through out and the choices make sense with each other.
