Shoe molding in some rooms, not others?

We finally finished installing LVP throughout the middle (foyer, living room, eat-in kitchen) and lower (den, five steps down from the kitchen, small hall, bathroom, laundry room, and enclosed garage) levels of the house . We did the foyer and living room without removing the baseboards so we have to use shoe molding in those areas to cover the gaps. The kitchen had all new sheetrock so it didn't have baseboards when the flooring was being laid either. I wish we didn't but we didn't think of it at the time and it's too late now. We had to level the floors in the lower area so the baseboards had to be removed and they don't need shoe molding. Neither does the kitchen, which really only has one wall that isn't covered in cabinets but its visible from the foyer. Would it be strange to leave the areas that we can without it? The only two areas that HAVE to have it are the foyer and living room, which are seperated from the kitchen by a framed but open doorway.

I do not think I would add it where it is not needed I try really hard to avoind it when possible How much of it is even visible in those spaces with the furniture in place ? Just relax and enjoy all the nice new flooring paint the shoe mold like the basebord and be done

Shoe molding is never "needed" unless your installer left you with ugly ragged edges that need to be hidden, but is part of creating a finished appearance and transition from baseboard to floor. It asdds interest and definition to the baseboard. I'd no sooner leave it out than leave the casings off my window openings. ;-)

If you already have shoe moulding in portions of your home will recommend that you add it pretty much everywhere for a more cohesive look.

Since you need the shoe molding in those 2 places, have them install it there first and have the areas with new baseboard finished so you can see it. You are focused on it now, but will probably never look at it again. If you feel like you need to have it everywhere, then just add it.

Until recently I had several different widths and heights of baseboards in my home, some with shoemold and some without. I don't think anyone ever noticed, and it didn't bother me.

I need to set the record straight here. Shoe molding serves a purpose and has around a very long time It can serve as a finished and elegant look, prevents bugs from entering into the wall and prevents scuffing. It is subjective. Like fringed jeans vs hemmed jeans. If one style is minimalist, I can see not using one. Unfortunately, in your case due to your contractors lack of skill you had to use it. But ultimately installing shoe molding at your baseboard is a personal choice.
