Are You Suddenly Attracted To #2 Over # Number 1?

For me, both examples are extremes , but you’ll see what mean For ages,, I ve been a Number 1. Now Im smiling at the other and wondering how on earth I can add little touches of this warmly whimsical look. And where Is it coming from…this urge? I no longer take English Home, French Cointry, or Traditional Home, Veranda, or view IG or Piniterst. Mabe its Home Worthy?

Hass any of this been seeping into your brain …a teeny bit wishfully? Are you acting on it?

And not only in Mbr.

I loved #2 when I saw it posted here! The patterns and color choices make it so appealing. It's not what comes naturally for me but I was attracted to that room immediately.

I love #2...#1 looks like it's just incomplete, waiting for some touches to make it more colorful, interesting, art, area rug, pillows, quilt or comforter at the foot of the bed, etc. I'm so over the neutral everything everywhere. I have a lot of color in my home and I love it.

I've always been more of a Photo 1 gal, but with less patterns. In the mid 80s to mid 90s all our beds had quilts purchased from the Amish. DS's antique bed had a loom woven coverlet based on vintage design.

If we ever move again, I would like to wallpaper most, if not all, the bedrooms in a small to medium repeat. Engilsh feel.

If #1 had more variations of white, off white, cream—even oatmeal— and more varied textures it could be every bit as interesting and appealing as #2. But as is I much prefer #2.

I prefer the serenity of #1 for my bedroom. a nd #2 for a guest room

I like both types of rooms, but the #1 here is kind of bland and boring. You can do neutrals that aren't bland/boring. I do prefer #2, though.

I've never been a #1 type person even though I like calm, serene spaces, that one has veered into yawn territory to me. It's missing more than color, needs texture and a wider variation of the tone on tone. I love the look in #2 and have that pic saved even though I know I could never pull it off - that takes *skilz* I don't possess!

edit to add - just noticed I have the exact window set up of #2 in my bedroom and I love the way they used the same fabric in different ways for the windows. Wheels are turning...

I also have pic #2 saved! I love it. I like the first one, but not for me.

My choice would be #2. I prefer mixing colors and patterns in rooms in most cases.

#1 looks soft and comfortable, I like it, but would want to add personal touches to it.

My IG saved folders are almost all a certain type of English room — inviting, soft, interesting, collected, usually mixing patterns/colors, but some more neutral, too. Beautiful, and magazine-worthy, but you wouldn’t be afraid to sit on or touch anything.

I do not love either but I could sleep in number 1. The yellow in number two causes a visceral response triggering a headache and nausea.

I think I'm somewhere in between. I prefer the neutral walls, drapes, and dark wood furniture in #1. But I like bold bedding. I wouldn't choose exactly what is in #2 but something with some pattern and maybe color.

I'm not crazy about either, but I don't like the colors or patterns in #2. I like the simplicity of #1 but with color on the walls and in some accessories.

I lean towards #2 but definitely not those colors. Our home has lots of greens and blues. I do love a pretty bed, i make my bed very similar with 2 covers and multiple pillows. However, different and softer colors. 😊

Im feeling ornery today. Number two looks like a jumbled up mess to me, regardless of the colors. Like it’s been put together with all the discards from other peoples projects and a ”What the heck, sure why not, its free” attitude of the room’s decorator. 😋

I'm also in between. I like a somewhat collected look, with lots of texture and a few fabric prints but all on a more neutral background. I like #2, but probably only do something like that in a vacation home. Could be a lot of fun!

I like both, but am more drawn to #2 without the yellow dressers. I guess I like a neutral base with some color and pattern added.

I like both, but I find that, for the long term, I live best with #1. I tend to tire of colors after a while whether on walls or furniture so, that would be my pick. I would, however, add a wooden chest or bench at the foot of the bed and probably a warmer white on the walls. I would also replace that bed with an antique wood one.

I'm in-between. Number 1 is too sterile for me, but the mix of patterns in No. 2 makes me twitch.

Vintage found look of number 2 with the neutral tones of number 1. I love all neutrals with vintage hardwood furniture, including hardwood headboard.

Great topic. Loving the warmth of #2. I do like neutrals...but with art like pieces thrown in. It needs something "cool" above the bed and a bench at the foot of the bed...and maybe a HUGE cool basket with a throw hanging out of it. 🍁

I like monochromatic, but the monochromatic room is not very skillful in my opinion. It doesn't have to be that dull. I guess I am more of a #2 given these two choices.

Initially I thought #1 looked like a soothing hotel room, and I like the chest in that one a lot, but when I enlarged the photo and covered the window it gave me a very uncomfortable vibe. I like some color enlivening a bedroom - my current bedspread is a stitched solid burgundy cotton in a room with pale yellow white-trimmed walls and a bit of teal accents -but with very little pattern. When I use my down duvet the white cotton cut-work cover provides pattern and interest...#2 is closer to my liking, but has a little too much pattern going on for me.

I never seem to be on trend. I had white on white and neutral everything in the mid 1980s. It wasn't me. Didn't fit my lifestyle. I went from white on white to taupe when everyone was doing builders beige and white and hated pink undertones on anything. I also added rich colors and have continued with taupes and rich colors ever since.

Last year was hard. My sister passed away early last year and one of my oldest and dearest friends passed away in December. I got sick over the holidays and was laying in bed looking at stuff on my phone and bought a new comforter and sheets that made me feel happy. Got the raspberry sheets.

Last year I got this for my spare bedroom:

Safe to say I am not afraid of color.

I definitely prefer #1, as I do not like a lot of patterns in the bedroom, and generally only have one or two at most - curtains/drapes plus bedspread, but the bedspreads I have now are solid colors.

I'm not a white on white person, but I do like monochromatic bedrooms.

I have some ornate brocade fabric that I want to use for a new bedspread, but I just barely have enough, and I will probably have to make a border for it with the lining fabric, which I will have to buy, as I want it to be solid. This fabric has scenes of camels in the desert with palm trees, and I don't remember what else, but it is a bit busy. I would not want this bedspread to have to compete with other patterns, but I don't have any right now anyway.

I'm not into the cottage look in #2, and I'm not into the color-less-ness of #1. Instead I'd be drawn to a hybrid...the simplicity of #1 with more color and warmth.

My post wasn’t clear. I tried by saying the two pics were extreme examples., and went on to not express my thought very well.…which is: Due to recent influences, Homeworthy being the newest, the English( French also) country look has drawn my attention . The mixture of colors and small prints have caught my eye, and not in awful way, and I’m wondering if this is a slowly growing trend . A total reversal of the tone on tones of gray, white and beige of the very recent years. I’m staying put with my own preferred look, but I might add a few small country touches . Stay tuned 😊

I should be calling it ”cottage ” vs. ”country” .

I clicked 'like' on ilikefriday's comment because I sort of agree - not so much on the color/patterns (altho the 2nd is certainly clashing, IMO), but more about all those decorative pillows on the beds. I just don't understand that style.

Interesting thought. I do wonder what the next trends will be. I have always been more about color, although I do include neutral pieces. Number 1, is not for me. Dare I say a bit boring Number 2 is too much. My favorite design style for day to day living is on the casual side, not really cottage, but more Nancy Myers with more warm color. Still working in moving my house fully in that direction.

I like pillows on the bed because I love a pretty bed, and I love fabric. I usually have two shams, 2 euros and a long pillow in front. It's no big deal to me in making/unmaking the bed. We have a large armoire directly across from the bed that has a tv and shelves shelves below. I can easily put the pillows there when we go to bed. We also have a chest at the end of the bed. My style leans a bit cottage but not overly and not country. I seems to work with our many antique furniture pieces.
