Any ideas to modernize this without completely redoing it?

First remove those shutters they do not belong on those windows It ia bad try at colonial and not that or modern > Waht is it you do not like ? How do you get to the front door from the street . I always dislike the only access to the entry from a driveway. I do not like brick and white together IMO the white is way too stark. I love sage greens and brick they compliment eachother nicely The pediment above the door is not working for astyle either IMO think modern bi level and maybe dark gray for the siding and all the trim

I'd keep the shutters, certainly the upper ones. I'm neutral on the lower ones. I'd paint them a bright navy. Ditto the door surround. I tend to be skeptical of requests to "modernize" a pretty classic style. Unless you want to invest a lot of money, you're better off sticking with the existing style. I think the white siding looks good, but the trim is a different white. I'd fix that.

I'd focus on the landscaping. That said, in winter, most landscaping looks lackluster at best, so wait until spring and post again.

Have you already bought it or are you considering buying it?

Some great suggestions above! I think without sinking big money, your options are remove/paint shutters; repaint trim; and/or repaint siding to a different color.

If it were me, I would start with small easy changes first and see if that gives enough of a refresh. I usually prefer shutters, but I do think the shutters/door trim in black with stark white siding and half brick are probably what's making it feel dated. I would try removing them and painting door trim to start.

Simple things: remove the shutters. Paint the door surround and pediment white. Paint the storm doors black including the little window trim.

Thanks so much everyone. I’m fine with keeping the general style of the house but it does need a refresh, agree with small steps to start. Yes, we already purchased the home and close in March. There’s really not a ton of inventory in my area & budget with the square footage and land my family needs. So we got something that checks 7-8 of 10 boxes and will do what we can to make it great for us

I like shutters in general, but totally get needing to paint them and painting trim is easy enough... Suggestions on colors?

I’m no design buff by any means but love a traditional/modern combo. I just have no direction so I’m thankful for everyone’s suggestions

Yes to the landscaping project! I suggest removing the bottom shutters and painting the upper ones in a softer colour such as Taupe as well as the door surround. I also suggest you paint the storm doors the same colour as the front doors.

Didn’t even think of taupe! Thanks so much for the idea and the visual
