Who bred Magnolia Memories?

The only information I can find states Antique Rose Emporium introduced Magnolia Memories. But I can't find any information on who bred this rose. This rose is not listed under Mike Shoup's roses on hmf. Any one know the answer to this mystery? Thank you

I'm trying to make plant labels and want to put a name to credit the hybridizer. Should I just put unknown?

That is strange. Even the breeders at the large houses such as star and j&p get breeding credit.

I'm pretty sure Magnolia Memories is a Shoup rose since ARE lists it under Pioneer Roses, and all of those are Shoup bred. I agree that it's ambiguous on their website. If you want to confirm this, you can always email them and ask.

I THINK it was bred by Andrew Barocco, who worked at Antique Rose Emporium for several years as their director of breeding and production (according to his Facebook page). Crawfish Etouffee, Fragrant Blush, Prairieville Prince and Femme Fatale (which won both international and American awards in 2023) are all his work.

Ooh, that's good to know plantloverkat - thanks for reporting that! I have Prairieville Prince, Crawfish Etouffee and Femme Fatale and I want to attribute them properly to the breeder. I appreciate this information.

You are right plantloverkat! Thank you for the tip. In his article he named a few roses he bred: Magnolia Memories, Femme Fatale, Up for Anything, and Glass Slipper.

With Magnolia Memories winning an AGRS fragrance award, why is he not credited as the breeder? All the other roses on the AGRS fragrance page seem to have someone credited. Why did the page-creator not find it necessary to publish the breeder of this particular rose?

I did speak with the manager at ARE yesterday and she said ARE bred Magnolia Memories. Perhaps that is one reason why Andrew Barocco is not credited for his rose.
