A round, smaller coffee table, up on legs, glass top would also lighten your small room. A nesting one could extend out to both sides of sectional.

Rustic Reflections Metal Wood and Glass Coffee Tables, 2-Piece Set · More Info

And yes to removing the cabinet just inside the door, especially now that you want to add chairs. You have a cabinet in your foyer--no need for another one. The foyer and living room should be considered one space and painted a light color.

I can’t move the sectional to face the windows because it’s 8ft long and the wall is 6ft.

I love the idea of different curtains. I felt the same way about them being too light.

I can move the rug back. However, there is not a lot of space behind the couch on the window wall, definitely not enough for a table.

Love the idea of a round coffee table. I’ve been thinking about making that change.

Basically, I’m limited to this set up. I need to fill the space left of the tv and the empty walls on both sides of the tv.

Please: Just draw the entire 13' x 15' room and note the dimensions for all walls , all windows, and their placement. the opening to foyer and any other space as well. Note the openings and their dimensions

Upload it as a jpeg in a comment below, bold and legible..

You will get far better and more concrete answers.

You're not going to like my answer

The sectional is your dictator: (

It's taking over the room.. I would delay , and re think a bit. Three pieces of art over a nice 90 inch couch....a mirror between the windows will add light. A more OPEN less bulky cocktail table.

Sorry! But this is why a sectional is a "costly" way to furnish - zero flexibility.

Eliminate one cabinet, and put the tv over whichever fits.

Thinking you are not going to buy all new furniture so..move sectional back a bit more..you need the next size rug! behind sectional where you have the cabinet..remove the cabinet and add a slender sofa table behind the sectional against the back of it…than you will have enough room to add a chair to the left of the tv.

    Okay............ humoring @ HIWE: )

Can we acknowledge the sofa is visually large and bulky and meant for a room at least twice the size? That the attempt to float it fails IN THIS ROOM?

Get it against the most sensible wall for the sofa, and get a wall that is reasonable for a tv/console in the size you own.....

Don't try to fill a 13' wall and the blah around the tv

Use natural woven shades to pick up on your rug, store the sheer. Get accent pillows, for the "dictator " sectional in the room. Lighten up the coffee table to more leg , no matter round or square or any other. Add an accent chair.

Browse art that suits you! there are tons of sources and we should not select it.

If you try this? Try Turning your rug, long side parallel to 15 ' wall. I think you are in reverse.

Thank you. I agree with the fact that the dictator is a pain, but like home interior mentioned this is what I have to work with at the moment. I’m not is a position to purchase new furniture.

I actually did rearrange everything like your drawing and the room felt bigger. Not sure if my husband is going to be on board for re-wiring everything again to move the tv .. we’ll see.

I appreciate these suggestions and all of your talents 😊

Lisa I love the suggestions and that you moved stuff around again. It does seem bigger! Wanna hear about it tomorrow.

    ABSOLUTELY! Better: )

xo above for the colored visual

Wow, flipping the sectional orientation is absolutely the way to go. It's sort of following Sofa Placement 101: sofa goes on the long wall. Now the room is much more inviting and open while being cozy for TV watching. Go for it!

You need to convince your husband that some wiring work today will make for a more comfortable sitting area in the long run. @lisedv gave you a much, much better layout. The room is more inviting and the people sitting in it will feel less cramped, even though it is small and there’s a big couch in it.

This is always about feet and inches.....: ) Yes.....feet and inches!! and openings and passages and all else.

Before you can dream in color, in textures, in curtain patterns and colors? Before you can even ( wisely we hope ) toss out suggestions that may or may not work? You get a pencil and a tape measure.

So you can do this. The beauty of fractions and scale. What fits. Where does it best fit? Fifteen minutes. A ruler and a piece of paper and a tape measure 1/4 inch to 1 foot.

    Then? color your world: )!

( Note: this room was bit like the Xmas tree example. When you drag in a really big one? You need a really good corner to absorb it. The minute you put that tree at or near a doorway, or any opening passage.....it will "double" in bulk!)

Took your advice to turn the room. It’s SO much bigger and warmer.

Still working on getting new throw pillows, chair and table, but you get the idea. We really tried utilizing pieces we already had, which was a snowball effect., but with it.

Thank you all for your suggestions and sharing your talents.

Such a big difference! I'm happy you're happy! Have fun with the finishing touches!

The room looks great! One more thing, move the area rug just under the feet of the sofa. You have plenty of rug to do this. The rug does not need to be that close to the tv console.

    WHOA WHOA .......Not quite

    Go back to this...

Now........what happened to the pine chest and how did Grandfather the clock get in there?!

    Where is this?

Pull the sectional that has its back to the wall more to CENTER and it matters not there is a gap behind it at the window wall.

Yes you need art, yes you need a chair.or two.

    But less cliche coastal?

Get the clock out : )

Home interiors .. The pictures don’t do it justice. It truly doesn’t when you’re in the room. I understand why you would say that though. Honestly, I’m so grateful for your suggestions., especially working with this odd set up and trying not to purchase too much new .. we are trying as much as possible to up and recycle.

I would pull that sectional out of the corner a bit…let it breath..ok to have a space there..if you decide on drapes they will hang nicely behind the sectional.

    Okay! I can do that

Hang all the shell art over sofa..setof 6 do not separate them.

I think HIWE means like this. (?)

If any vents are blocked move sofa away 3ft.

The pictures won’t fit like that they are too big. We had them horizontally but ithey didn’t look good.

Vents are not blocked and couch can not come out 3feet only 1 ..which it is now

Hmm what size frame do the shells have?..you hang them with only 2” between them top and bottom…what is the measurement from top off sofa to ceiling?

  • PRO

There is a point at which 'upcycle" needs a bit more.

I do understand resources! I also think if the op wants a coastal feel? Slow down, save some money. That feel can be had inexpensively, and without shouting beach. Especially if one is not in a beach locale!

The FOUR shell prints belong between the windows, tightly grouped. Eliminate the one odd man to out!

There needs to be some generous sizing over the couch on the 13" wall and it should use up 70% of couch length. That means about 60" or more , whether it is one piece or three side by side.

  • PRO

I didn't mention anything in my previously comment because the OP did say she wasn't done with the finishing touches to her decor. But I agree the sectional should be slightly pulled away from the window wall and that the picture frames should be replaced/relocated. And the cabinet would definitely be a better fit than the clock on the left wall.

Take the corner out of the couch..

Put the yellow ish chest back where it was and paint it!

    Then

Get an open console for the 13 ' wall

Hang your FOUR! SHELL PRINTS above the new console!

    and...........................

Art between the windows, mirror over the chest you paint! Pillows on the couch, a pair of lamps for painted chest and your end table!

    Now...............THAT is a room!!!

The technology here is getting frustrating…..But your advice is still solid. Separating the sectional is a great idea.
