Converting 700 sqft garage to living space where should I put bedrooms

This is the current floor plan of my ‘starter home” that will most likely be my forever home. We are raising garage to make it all one level. I’m thinking I should remove large window from living room, install a double front door more towards the middle of the house and add a small bedroom to the left of the door into what is currently living room. I’d like to move kitchen into garage because the current space isn’t big enough. Ideally I’d like to have a foyer and the master bedroom on the opposite side of kids rooms. Any opinions? Its so hard to imagine what this will look like and what will flow well. I will install new windows and we have to replace deck anyways so I’m not worried about revolving plans around either of those things

A bit more information will be needed. This is an existing house? Do you already live in it? How many people will live here, and ages? What are your needs? What are the limitations and things that can affect the project, like what is the current foundation and construction, any load-bearing walls? Can you expand? Is there a budget? The current plan is just a computer sketch, no doors or measurements shown. What part of the country is it in/climate?

    Dimensions are needed.

Engage a local architect. The right architect will be able to come up with a layout that will meet your needs, fit the site, and efficiently alters the existing conditions. With that said it could end up that selling this house and buying/building another house may be more cost effective. You may save money with your husband being a general contractor but he will be paying for the remodeling one way or another.

Will you be adding a new garage?

Pulling permits? Will the building dept allow this? Is the garage slab insulated (most are not)?

I had a ranch house like this that converted the garage. If you're on a slab, it makes sense to expand the kitchen into the garage, leaving plumbing in place. It will save time and money. Maybe not an ideal layout, but with a little creativity... Yes, maybe another BR in living. Measure the house and draw to scale on graph paper, take some exterior pics, and post. What is your heating system?

Here are current dimensions and what I came up with last night. Dimensions for everything are off a few inches cause I’m doing this in between chasing kids around.. I’m thinking maybe it would be best to keep half the garage but it cuts down on our living room/ kitchen space a bit. How do you think this would flow? Is it weird to walk into a house and see a wall straight ahead?

We were planning on building on an attaching 30 acre piece of land that we have but we don’t want to build while I’m pregnant or when we have a new baby so it would be a few years. We put it off once when we first bought the house and I feel like we’re going to be priced out of building new. If we can make this house something that I love for less than 125k I think it would be worth it. Where our house sits now has an amazing view that the other spot doesn’t have so that’s a plus. Ideally I wanted a master bedroom away from our kids rooms but I’m not sure if that’s feasible. We will have to raise garage floor about 30 inches. Yes we would pull permits for everything. I’m not sure what exactly you mean by type of hvac. We have ac unit outside and furnace.. we also have a large finished basement.

It would cost atleast 400k for a new home and I just don’t want to deal with the stress that comes with it while my kids are so young. But I know it will probably never seem like a good time to build, so maybe we should before prices get too high.. I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out the best thing to do.
