Debra - I did an image search & quite a few pop up. I didn’t see the maker ”Austin” with any of the images. Is yours ceramic or bronze? There’s a 1931 bronze piece by Richard Recchia ”Fat Cat”

It’s not the bronze and I don’t seem to think it’s ceramic either. When I looked some things up I found I guy who repairs them and he said they are often made of Durastone. I think that’s what it’s made of as it’s got some weight to it. I just can’t find anything else about the cat.

Austin Productions apparently got their start in Brooklyn, NY and began by making reproductions of sculptures from museums. They later expanded into creating original works.

    Look up Botero Fat Cat

Museum of fine arts Boston repro link here

I don't have a membership to Worthpoint, but maybe someone here can check the sale price.

They also sell some repro at Wayfair, so look at those, too.

@KW PNW Z8 Thanks, I couldn't tell if it was recognizable or not.

It’s very interesting to me that there are many of these “Fat Cat” statues online and yet not one of them has the face of the one I have. Mine has much smoother eyes, nose and mouth lines….. much cleaner than The Botero and other Fat Cat statues. Makes me wonder if it’s worth more because of that. I’m not going to sell it, but would like to know it’s worth if any.

As stated by @Olychick the original sculpture resides at the MFA Boston, but is actually titled ”Persian Cat” and as noted by @KW PNW Z8 was made by Richard H. Recchia in 1931 of cast bronze. The dimensions are 19 1/2 x 10 1/4 x 12 in. You may have a stylized reproduction or possibly Austin Productions did their own riff on the statute. Instead of durastone, it may be made of cold cast bronze which is a mixture of bronze powder and resin.

ETA: I’m not sure how the Colombian artist Botero (1932-2023) fits in. Perhaps somewhere along the way Recchia’s sculpture was mis-attributed to Botero (the rounded shape/mass is a hallmark of Botero’s work) and reproductions were manufactured with Botero’s ”signature.”

Thank you so much elunia. This cat looks exactly like mine although mine is smaller. This is the only cat that has the exact face that mine has. All the other ones I have seen are more intricate and ornate. Thanks again!
