“Linear light” - you mean a linear LED lightbar? Like this? If so, they come in standard sizes that you connect together. 4’ usually. So you could do 8’.

It all dpends on the light some linear fixtures IMO look more like DR not kitchen. We don't even know your style. Beverly's info is a good start . We need so much more info
