Offwhite wall gold granite countertop.what color to hoose for cabinets

last modified: 9 months ago

We have off white walls, gold granite (standard industrial grade), classic travertine square backsplash. We were wondering if off white or a lighter shade of white than the walls (basically the color of the tims) will look good on the cabinets. Currently the cabinets are stained dark brown and with the coffee colored wood flooring it makes the kitchen dark. Any other suggestions for coloring the cabinets??Second photo is with the new island that we build. Third pic is the wall color and trim color, fourth pic is the color of travertine backsplash and last one the granite that we have currently.
Thank you for helping

I don't know if I would go lighter than the wall color... have you sampled any colors?

BM Linen White would be nice with the countertop and backsplash tile, BUT you have to sample in YOUR light, around the clock... especially at night with lighting.

Everything will look good in natural light during the day.

    I personally don't like a contrasting trim.

You did a good job on your island. Will it have the same granite on the island? I personally would use the same granite.

On my screen the wall color you have looks good with the countertop, backsplash and floor. I would paint the cabinets the wall. The windowsills in the dining room I would paint the white trim color.

Yes, using the wall color for painting the cabinets will look good. It's a good match to the colors in the travertine tile.

Here's an idea of what the kitchen could look like if painted in an off-white colour to coordinate with the wall colour. You can replace the backsplash with a glossy cream tile installed in a herringbone or metro pattern and have a black quartz or granite countertop on the island.

Thank you for all of y'alls feedback. I am thinking of doing the same color as the walls with a brown glaze. maybe like this?

below one has off white with a graze

Another vote for the same color as the walls. Because it is all one open space, you really don't want or need the cabinet themselves to stand out. I would not do a glaze - it will only highlight the dated cabinet doors. Instead, paint it all the color of your walls and then find some attractive lights to be the wow moment in the space.

Have you already purchased an island countertop? I do like @lise 's black countertop idea.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting - Some people choose to use what they have for a whole variety of reasons. I think the OP has done a good job of making everything work together. Praise is in order for this one, not condemnation. I suspect they will not be spending $$$$ to paint the cabinets.

Your comments are truly invaluable. Thank you so much. I had a small question : if I go with off white cabinets matching the wall , will the color of the trim (pure white) become too problematic? Will it look mismatched?

Of course were simply looking at this on a computer screen but it seems fine in your picture:

Worst case scenario when everything is done is that you paint the trim the same colour as the walls in a satin or semi-gloss finish.
