can this turned into a more modern piece?

last year

I’d prefer not to spend on a new cabinet, but I want it to look more modern. Could painting help? Are there any other ways?

    Forgot to add the cabinet

I think the angled boards give it a rustic/Western vibe, so I would look at covering those and painting the whole piece. I follow a couple of furniture flippers and I see a lot of pieces updated by adding either caning or narrow slats/strips of wood placed directly over the existing wood.. Cane would probably reqire cutting the wood out if the door frames. The narrow strips look good stained a natural color and placed over dark paited wood so there is dark shadow showing between the slats. I am not certain if you really mean modern style or just more current style? ’I’ll try to add some pics

You might be able to buy new doors.

    The angled bards

The angled boards give a western vibe.
Would it be a lot of trouble to unscrew the doors and reverse them?
The back side is probably smooth and easy to paint...worth a try.

Here is an example of updated doors with cane:

If I were to paint it what color? Here’s a video of my space.

The cabinet doors look like barn doors, which are not modern in any way. Painting them isn't going to change that. Your room is very modern, so if you don't want to spend money on a new cabinet, then either turn the doors or remove them entirely.

Pole wrap gives this cabinet a modern look. Furniture legs were also added.

Are the insides of the doors flat? Maybe you could turn them around so the diagonal wood pieces do not show. If you paint it black the rustic hardware will blend in and disappear. It will match the black legs on your console piece.

If you cab flip the doors great but IMO by the time you add new doors you might as well just get a new cabinet and BTW a HOME pillow is not modern so maybe just mix it up a bit

The entire corner actually doesn’t feel connected and I think even after cabinet is altered, that area still won’t work with the room. If you do decide to paint, suggest black so the raised pieces and the metal are not as prominent.

Accessorizing is key (surface and shelving) and place the wine inside, as art will be much nicer, add modern cushions to create a connection and will also add to your sectional visually.

If it were me, I’d just get a modern bar cart and if you sell your cabinet it might even pay for most of it.

Experiment with item choices and placement.

Hi everyone! Here's an update. I took off the doors. Unfortunately, the back of them doesn't allow me to flip them. I put legs on the cabinet and plan to paint the back of the shelves black.

The small frame in the pictures holds a shallow box of matches containing places that my husband and I visited when we first met. Can I hang it in this area
Or does it not go at all? Thanks!!

Your cabinet is much improved without the doors.

The color of the piece, though, seems to clash with the floor AND the wall. I think I would paint the whole thing.

    Should I paint it black?

It's difficult to make out exactly what the colours are in your room but I think a warm gray would work nicely in your room. You can paint the top black.

Its not perfect but for now I think its ok. Just need to hang something next to vertical wine rack

Can you move one of the ones on the right next to the wine rack?

I would love some help arranging my wall! :) I want to add a few items. One item is a photo of the bar where my husband asked me out for the first time 23 years ago. Another item is a metal sign featuring a martini, which represents my husband’s favorite drink. I also eat his olives, so that sign has a special meaning for us. Whats the best way to arrange?
