Help! Should we go lighter or darker with wood floors with wood trim

We are getting our white oak hardwood floors refinished. We currently have wood trim and doors. I am leaning towards a stain that is a warm light color but I don’t know where to start. I’m over whelmed with thought and need to narrow down to about 3-4 options for the contractor. I’m asking for color stain ideas.

So he floors you have are going to be redone ? Is that right? I ssume the kitchen is staying right as it is and you did not paint the cabinets. If you want wood trim IMO the same as the floor is best As for what color too hard to answer with those ppics and not seeing any of the samples from the flooring refiniaher . So once he has shown those choices on your floor in your house then take pics and come back

Personal likes rule. Do you like the lighter busy look or do you want darker which would disguise the grain lines more? I don't agree that trim boards have to match the flooring.

We are going to put samples on the floor. I have special walnut, golden oak, natural, English chestnut, early American and fruitwood samples. We are keeping the cabinets white and the wood trim. I will post pictures after we get samples down.

Our floors never had a stain just polyurethane and are 21 years old

Does the flooring contractor have samples for you to take a look at? If not, consider getting some white oak pieces to create sample stains to see in your space.

Sometimes a couple shades are mixed together to achieve the desired color.

I imagine you're needing to consider flooring color along with all the wood trim that will remain.

Unfortunately he does not have samples or duraseal stain for us to sample either. So we are using minwax stain as a guide but he says he will get duraseal when we have it narrowed down. Next question will be oil or water based polyurethane and matte or satin?!

We have added new hardwood in our living room and will have it finished with the old wood. Here is a picture of part of the new with the old wood

Make sure to look at the samples next to the trim/door color.

The colors will not be the same between the brands. Water vs Oil Poly will also change the look. You need to get a better floor guy. Personally I think the color it is currently is great. Just my .02.
