Check your ordinances but it probably has to be red. You learn to not notice it.

Do you actually have the gas burner and where is it? I have never seen one of these in my life.

I wasnt home when submitted my question , so i looked on line for a picture similar to what I have. We have a gas furnace in the basement, gas fireplace and the switch from what my husband said, the emergency shut off switch. Of the numerous places this switch could have been placed i have no idea why the builder placed it there

Seems silly to me to- in Maine at least there is also a circuit breaker and a fuse at the furnace… get a deep shadow box frame and put some art over it.

I ahve had gas funaces and FPs in many homes and never had this so not sure what the code is where you live But check to see if maybe like an electrical box it can be covered with a piece of art That is just a mystery to me .

Not sure if it’s code in your state to cover the red switch plate, but they do sell neutral switch plate covers for just this problem.

This is an emergency shut off to a gas appliance. Ask if they can move it to the entrance of the room instead of next to the appliance.
