The natural fibre area rug you now have works well.

I want to replace it. Has lots of pulls from our daughter’s cat!! Want a different look. Thinking cream

You need a rug that will contrast with the dark floor, dark fireplace, dark sofa so a palette of cream background with light brown and gray pattern but not too much of it. Order a 2' x 3' sample to try out the rug. Then send it back for a larger or different rug.

    What about these??

The first two are too cool--too much gray. The third one is a warmer palette to warm up the room, which it needs, but the rectangles are going to fight against the fireplace tiles and floorboards--too many rectangles.

Look up "beni ourain," a style of Moroccan rug--ivory with subtle light gray or brown pattern. Check out "berber cream, brown, gray." Split your computer screen. Put up your photo of the living room. On the second screen put up your choices.

Do everyone a favor. Remove your current rug and take a photo without it. It does add warmth, and you don't want to lose that quality.

What do you want the look and feel to be? The current rug is TOO warm for the view we are seeing as is the cocktail table, especially in combination with the fire /black.....and the gray walls.

Would like an ivory rug. Walls are actually alabaster not grey. Current rug definitely going.

Please remove current rug so we can see floors. Please show well-lit photos of entire room. If you want an ivory rug, then get one! The only ones you showed were mainly gray and brown. You've gotten multiple suggestions. Next time:

Here is how to post a Design Dilemma to get the best results. You need to show the whole space—all four sides of an entire space—even if it’s about one specific Dilemma. Commenters need to see doorways, windows, closets, finishes throughtout the space to make informed suggestions.

State right at the beginning what the room will be used for and who will use it. State the non-negotiables at the beginning, what has to be kept. Give some idea of the budget. And provide approximate measurements

Keep in mind that you're inviting some design pros and people with a design eye into your home via photos. If they walked into your actual space, they would take in all of it: all four sides, doorways, floors, windows, ceiling, built-in fixtures, lighting, trim--the "givens"--then the features that can be changed--furnishings, paint, art, rugs, decor items, etc. It's all one first impression. Same thing with photos. That's why it's important to provide well lit photos of the entire space, taken from all sides of a room regardless of the size of your problem.

Sorry that fabric looks like camo so what was the reson for that print . As for therug choices none of the ones you posted IMO work. I think the one you have is the best so maybe just a new one .

I’d use texture for interest vs a pattern to unify the room and feel calmer. I’d also go a bit darker than ivory for upkeep purposes and it will feel less stark. If the cat is still coming over be sure to look into more resilient rugs.

Don’t forget the impact of cushions.

Not sure with all the gray tones in the room you decided that a patterned brown lounge chair was the best selection. The room is a bit schizophrenic.

No one can be seated and actually reach the coffee tables. That doesn't seem to be functional.

Combining the charcoal gray with brown seems to be the best you can hope for.

FYI I had this furniture before moved into this house….i realize a bit of a Mumbai jumbo! Tables are huge and pull out. Flooring is grey. If could figure out how to delete post I would. Thanks to those that gave feedback.

Thank you @simplynatural. Love it. Where did you find carpet??

  • last month

This one is from rugsdirect.com; search for "Traditions Made Modern" and it should be the first one that comes up. It's hand-tufted wool, not cheap, but if this one is beyond the budget, maybe you could find something similar. I like the subtle yet modern/geometric pattern and the colors that pick up those already in the room.

Found a couple on Etsy. I searched “cream rug with brown specks”.

Could someone @simplynatural try these carpets? Based on feedback I have done some searching. I am in Canada....USD makes a lot of items cost prohibitive and honestly don't want to break the bank.. These are all Wayfair. I don't have correct software....Hard to return so trying to avoid making a mistake.

I use rugsdirect's visualizer to place rugs in rooms; I have no tools to do it myself, and Wayfair doesn't have a visualizer. The first rug above looks quite similar to the one I showed. I would probably try that one first. As others have suggested, you could order the smallest size available to test (because the small ones are easier to return), then, if you like it, order the size you need (8x10?).
