I noticed there are a lot of this species in the UK. That surprised me since I thought this plant was from the Canary Islands and much more suited to a Mediterranean climate.

Here is a photo of this species after its biennial bloom. Those flower stalks can get to 20 feet tall!

You won't see this species outside the milder areas of the UK. Those areas not exactly a Mediterranean climate because the summers are definitely not dry. But the winters are relatively mild and if grown on fast draining soil it'll thrive.

And if you have one(flowering), the following years there are a million more. They love my sandy soil and arid climate. (Cambridge Z8/9). I also grow several Canary Island geraniums...although the UK winters are still a bit too nippy to keep aeoniums outside all year.

I was wondering about your garden, Rosa. You have the dryness and sharp drainage. I have damp, heavy soil and lots of rain. So although I am South of you, I don't see these around here. I do have a self sowing Geranium which may or may not be maderense.
