Are Brass beds out of style?

last modified: last month

I've had a king size brass bed in the attic for years and am moving. Are they out of style?

This just came out of the attic after 20 years. It hasn't been dusted or cleaned - at all.

Matchy match bedroom sets are out of style. A brass bed would be a lovely place to begin a room. Being a king solidifies its desirability.

There are specific interiors that lend themselves better to the introduction of a brass bed.

As with most furnishings there are 'good', 'better', 'best' quality of brass beds based on the materials and designs. The design of your bed was created likely during the 70s or 80s when headboards on beds were lower than they are currently & without any details on the finish to make it more interesting. Your brass bed IMO is not a design that might be cherished.

Still see the occasional brass, but the finish is a bit darker and less intricate.

If you want to keep, consider removing the top section, fill the holes and spray a deeper brass or even black.

Ensure the bedding (and bedroom in general) leans a bit contemporary or traditional, avoiding ”delicate”.

Removing the curly parts as suggested above and you have a contender.

Thank you, all. I've decided to sell it for a very low fee so I don't have to cart it off. If it doesn't sell, I'll bring it to good will.

As always, this feedback is just what I needed.

I am not sure what you mean . If your style is very traditional then it works if not your style get it gone. Where I live it is common to just put stuff on the curb for free it usually disappers in a day. Goodwill witl usually come to get it though . There are really modern barss beds and right now with all the "gold" stuff it probably sells like crazy . I trully am a believer in if it does not work for me I get rid of it and really used furniture to sell is more hassle than it is worth just give it to goodwill

I believe my taste is transitional. I love many of the elements of style of Laurel Bern, Maria Killam, and Life on Virginia Street. (Now mix those 3!)

My new home is quite the opposite of my current home. I'm moving from a Fairfield County cape with lots of small rooms (contract signed in 4 days after listing) to a FL home with very high ceilings, less storage, and less rooms. I bought much of their furniture (some of which I don't care for) so that I don't go into an empty home and can decorate piecemeal. May have been a mistake as I may "try to work"with what's there. Decorating will be a challenge.

Good advice on this bed frame, Patricia Colwell. In our area we cannot put things on the curb and I don't see how this could sell, which would be my preference so I don't have to cart it.

    It's going to Goodwill.

You always give great advice. Thanks.
