Admittedly, I hate marble -- it's old and cold -- but even if you love it, I don't get the point in putting that expensive, high-maintenance material in a space where pretty much only two people will see it. Do a search on this board of marble bathroom fixtures with problems -- you'll find more than a few examples, especially in showers, of spots that don't dry /turn dark.

Porcelain tile is much more a sure thing. Tile is hard to hurt, won't be damaged by hair dye or other chemicals, and will be cheaper to install. No question in my mind, I'd go with tile.
