So- don’t spare my feelings

I took a risk and put up this Scalamandre wallpaper in my kitchen. The kitchen really needs to be redone, but it’s not in the budget this year. I thought I could brighten up the all white kitchen with wallpaper, but I’ve had it up two weeks and I just can’t get used to it. What are your ideas/ suggestions? Putting up a picture of the rest of the room just so you can see what I’m dealing with.Btw it’s peel and stick-I put it up in the morning and I can take it off just as easily

    Rest of room

Your rooms are very attractive, so you clearly know how to put a room together. But the wallpaper has to go. It has a bedroom look, not appropriate for a kitchen at all. This is a misstep.

IMO it is not good and has no connection to anything that I can see. The color is nice but you do not just grab something out of thin air and expect it to do something awesome . IMO a wall color using a lighter color from the art work in the LR would have worked at least to connect to something. I agree thta kitchen needs a major rework so stop stressing about how it is and try working on how you want it to be but take taht wallpaper off for sure. The rug under the table is too small so take thta away and fake plants belong no where in any home and anytime you want a mirror rmebr it should always reflect something you want to see twice . I think you have a good idea and the pices you have work but it just needs some tweaking to be great . The kitchen is where I would spend the money for sure

Thank you!!! You are just solidifying what I knew had to happen. I’m going to take it down today!!

It is fun and brightens up your space. Nice compliment to your wood table. But, it looks odd because it feels so incomplete - it doesn't go to the ceiling, doesn't go around the door, and the right side of your kitchen is floating in space therefore so is the wallpaper. It could make more sense in an enclosed space, but here it looks a bit like you gift wrapped some boxes and stashed them on top of your cabinets.

Wonder how it would look if you just left it up in the backsplash area? If you take it down, try taking down the upper portion first and seeing if the backsplash looks ok. I would not wrap it around the side of the right wall though. Only on the right side surfaces that face into the kitchen.

I suggest you remove the paper from the soffit-type boxes over the cabinets and put it on the wall above them instead. It will look more like a kitchen with wallpapered walls and draw less attention to the boxes over the cabinets.

^ agree, it emphasizes the choppiness of the cabinets - with lots of small wall spaces I tend to like a low contrast look so the eye doesn't jump around the space. I would remove it all if it were me

I was thinking the same as Kendrah, try it with the wallpaper only in the backsplash area and see how that looks. It doesn't look good on the top imo.

Thanks everyone I took it all down. It feels so much better just being back to white walls. As far as the fake plants, it’s the only kind of plant I can have because May 1 I go back to Michigan until October 1st , so I can’t have real plants. Thank you everyone- I knew it had to happen. I just needed someone to give me a little push.

@Patricia-as always your advice is always stellar. I agree the rug is too small.-it’s from my old house. I’m still shopping for rugs. I brought stuff home and I just can’t find anything that works for the living room and dining room. Thanks!!

The wallpaper seems to calm the dogs down....how are they now that it's gone? Maybe line their doghouses with the leftover paper.

A vinyl grasscloth might have been an option for the kitchen but a patterned wallpaper was a miss.

I agree the wallpaper was not ideal for that space. But adding color to your house does sound like a good idea.

Pale, pale blue on some walls, an area rug or two with the same color, some throw pillows - all of these additions will give the space some pizzazz. I happen to love that wallpaper but not over the kitchen cabinets. What about the walls in your bedroom?

Even the doggos aren't impressed by the wallpaper. Definitely needs to go.

I am going to suggest adding more bright blue to the entire space. The wall art is so brilliant and beautiful, make it the inspiration for the rooms.

A few changes and you will have a whole new feeling in the space.

You have a lovely home! Before taking all the wallpaper down, try leaving only the backsplash area papered and see how that looks.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the wallpaper is gone already. I thought maybe the wallpaper would get my focus off how badly a remodel is needed.

@jennifer -thank you. I had not thought of bringing some of the blue out of the painting into the rug under the dining room table and then again on the flower arrangement. I really like how that looks.

Unsolicited advice, raise your curtain rods so your drapes aren’t on the floor.

And get a counter depth fridge.

    @jeanne- brand new fridge🩷
They’ll shrink the first time I wash them- probably before I go home. They’re from IKEA and shrink like crazy.

    Maybe they like the floor....otherwise....

I like the wallpaper on the back splash. The rest of it just looks awkward.

I love Scalamandre anything, but not a replica; and you know the blue isn't working.

I like your table and chairs. So, keeping that color in mind, what if you painted the entire space brown?

I don’t think anyone has ever spared anyone’s feelings on here. I do like the funky vibe, it’s fun and different but I think the print and colors are off. Maybe you could find something more muted but that still has some personality to it.

@elcieg-the entire place was chocolate brown when I bought it and I just painted it. I’m a white wall kind of girl. It just makes me feel good. I think that’s really why the blue wallpaper just did not make me happy. Thanks for the thought though and the picture looks amazing.

Shirlpp lol you would not believe how many doggiy beds they have. I have this huge one in my master that I’m gonna get rid of very soon because no one ever lays in it. They prefer the tile. I used to have them all over and then I realize why?!!- nobody lays on them and they’re just making a big mess everywhere. The favorite place to lay actually is in the shower.

At Beverly, I love the vinyl grass cloth actually but I think I’m going to put a pin in it until I figure out what I’m doing for a remodel.

@Jennifer Hogan! You were really right about bringing the colors from the picture into the room. I just stopped at marketplace and picked up a bowl and a pillow and I think it does make a difference. Thank you!

@betsyk2001 - So glad you are happy with your finds. Bring a bit of color into the kitchen and you will be set.

A soap dispenser, trivet, butter crock, utensil crock, maybe some red utensils for in a blue crock!. Don't add clutter, just replace the things you typically keep out with things that have color. Le Creuset has some great red and blue items!

Maybe swap out some of your pulls for blue cabinet pulls.

A stronger colored rug will complement the amazing painting.

I rather like the blue and white--it's just that the pattern is too large. Something much smaller would have worked!!

As to the unsolicited "advice". A larger rug under your table is needed.

Large dogs are always too hot. They seek tile to cool off. As you and they age your joints will not appreciate the tile so much.

"raise your curtain rods so your drapes aren’t on the floor" hahahahha or do it properly and hem the curtains!!
