Return to what are you watching

Afew weeks ago in a sanity grab I rewatched Ted Lasso to be reassured by demonstrations of kindness and accountability. Very soothing.

This week we happened upon a Netflix short series, Adolescence and it is excellent. The story of an English family with 2 kids and the 13- year old boy is accused of murder. Each episode is done in one shot so the action is essentially in real time. Actors are wonderful. Emotionally brutal but amazing if you are up for it.

We were watching a lovely series called Great Canal Journeys, but seems to have left the services where we were watching. Pity, because it was relaxing, informative, and interesting.

Hope you enjoy Wicked, Maddielee. I’ll have to wait a bit longer to see it on another service.

    “Hope you enjoy Wicked, Maddielee”

Thank you! This is a big deal for me the WICKED lover who was not brave enough to go to the germy movie theatre when it first came out.

Antiques Roadshow on the PBS streaming app - there are a bunch of new ones out - we watched 2 in a row last night 😀

Best thing I've seen recently is the series A Gentleman in Moscow. Beautiful story.

Eileen, I agree. The book is among my top favorites of all time. I was a little leery about watching it fully fleshed out with actors and I must say they did a beautiful job. Ewan McGregor was divine.

I just bought the book. I can't think of another time where I had to read the book after seeing the movie or show.

Best thing I've seen recently is the series A Gentleman in Moscow. Beautiful story.

Maybe my favorite book of all time. A shout out to Bunny who recommended it to me.

I should look into the show but I almost never watch anything but sports on TV.

Friends have given glowing recommendations for Adolescence but I don't think I'm in the headspace to watch that. Recently watched Our Man On The Inside, Paradise, and We Were The Lucky Ones and enjoyed all. Tried to watch The Americans (old show) and couldn't finish the first episode even though I love Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys. Same with the show Your Honor - couldn't finish the first episode. Just started Zero Day today. I do my watching from the treadmill.

We still watch Rick Steves’ Europe nightly at 5. They are all reruns now of course, but still interesting and cheerful.

I’ve read Gentleman three times and burst into tears at the end every single time.

jsk, give the show a shot if you get the chance.

I thought Adolescence was excellent, and totally riveting.

I thought Adolescence was superb. The acting was 4 star! I've recommended it to many. One piece of advice: watch episode 3 in one sitting; it's riveting.

    Gavin and Stacy.

Had never watched or heard of it before. It's a Welsh comedy and I need a good laugh. Some of the absurdist elements and oddball characters remind me of Gilmore Girls. But the plot is nothing like it. It is sweet, light, a bit vulgar in great ways, and I love the accents and lingo.

Adolescent sounds great. Gentleman in Moscow - liked but didn't love the book. Still looking forward to the movie.

I am a sucker for a hospital drama, which is funny because entering any hospital IRL (even just to visit) makes me anxious. I have been loving the Pitt. It is on Max. Noah Wylie, who was on ER for years, is the lead.

I needed a laugh last night so watched a Bill Burr standup special from a couple of years ago.

Loved the book A Gentleman in Moscow and loved the show almost as much.

Wanted to watch Ellen Pompeo in A Good American Family but watched the trailer and now not sure I do— has anyone here seen it yet?

Kswl, I watched the first two episodes of A Good American Family, and I'm not loving it. The acting isn't great, and I think the people are quite strange. I won't be watching any further.

We’ll have to look up Adolescence.

Nothing special, just The White Lotus and The Righteous Gemstones on Max. And lots of college 🏀

I’ve watched the first three episodes of The Residence and am enjoying it. Quirky murder mystery, I know that sounds like Only Murders in the Building. But only one detective. and a few Hugh Jackmans.

The Residence is enjoyable but is a very shaggy dog. Loved seeing Uzu Aduba in this role (after seeing her in Orange / Black knew she is capable of a lot).

Okay... I finally got into White Lotus. The first season was a little boring. The second season was good until the end when it got so raunchy. I guess the writer's now think most women want to see men full-frontal now. THEN... the third season is just pure evil with the incest, etc. It makes me sick... so I won’t be watching the last two episodes. So gross. What makes the writer think we’d enjoy watching that sick stuff is beyond me.

So now, trying to get all the "dirty" off me (lol) I’ve been watching lighthearted stuff instead, like Pamela Anderson’s cooking show on Youtube. And even though I’m not a fan of Meghan Markle, I’ve been watching her cooking show on Netflix. On the show, she seems cute and friendly. My beef has always been more with her weak-minded husband, but that’s another subject. Her show is lighthearted and food-related, and after watching that sick show, White Lotus, MM is a relief. LOL

I didn’t want to watch White Lotus though we enjoyed the first season and a half. And yes, I find With Love, Meghan to be relaxing and lighthearted and I have no aspirations, and I don’t feel that she expects me to! It’s staged and smooth and no surprises. Sometimes it’s just what I need.

I don't usually participate in these threads because I watch so little TV, so this may have already been covered in other threads, but a friend insisted I watch The Bad Sisters on Apple TV! I just started it, but omg the first scene might be the funniest I've ever seen starting a show. I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

    I adored White Lotus!
