What kind of spread or comforter do I get for a sleigh bed?

The sleigh bed rolls over a little at the bottom of the bed and I cannot fit the spread down in between the mattress and the bottom bed frame. If I use a comforter it does not fit flat going over the rolled sleigh part of the bottom of the bed.

Do you need a higher / thicker mattress? That would bug me…

I hope that you will come back and see this comment - I didn't see your post back in March.

I love sleigh beds - I would have one except that I compromised since my SO didn't really like them. So, my (newer) bed has a tall tufted upholstered wingback headboard + low footboard (I also have a low profile box spring - I think it's about 4 1/2" tall).

However - my previous bed had a high footboard - and it was a pretty tight fit between the mattress/box spring and the footboard. I assume that you tuck sheets in at the end of your bed (at least a fitted sheet). I don't use flat sheets - however, my SO requires one = he had to tuck it in when the sheets were changed.

FYI - I have a bit of an obsession with bedding - I have 15-16 linen duvet covers for my king size bed + various coverlets/throws/shams/pillow cases/sheets (I prefer cotton percale sheet instead of linen ones)/etc. I also refuse to share my duvet = we each have our own duvets for when we sleep.

I wish I was home so I could take a photo of my bed right now- but I am out of town. However, I have examples + explanations of what to do if you would like a nice looking cozy bed.

If you don't have room for your duvet between the matress and the footboard, you can simply have it pulled more towards the top of the bed + fold it back OR you can fold it into thirds and place it along the bottom of your bed (along your footboard). I change the way I do my bed fairly often - sometime I use a coverlet under the duvet - sometimes I fold the coverlet into thirds and place at foot of bed - and sometimes I don't use one.

If your duvet (or comforter, etc.) doesn't fit at all between mattress and foot of sleigh bed, you can simply pull it up a little higher than shown below + fold it down a bit more:

This is an example of a tucked in thin coverlet over with a duvet folded into thirds at the foot of the bed. Again, if you cannot tuck your coverlet, you can simply pull it up higher and make the top fold down a bit larger:

Another example with a duvet folded in thirds + a coverlet:

Here is an upholstered sleigh bed. My sister has one - and asked me how to style the bed. I did her bed similarly to the one below. The duvet cover is folded down a bit at the top + a coverlet has been added at the foot of the sleigh bed. The coverlet hasn't been folded perfectly - it is supposed to be a more casual look this way:

Here is another sleigh bed - it has a top sheet + coverlet + duvet + a second duvet (or a spread or thin comforter) folded + added towards the foot of the sleigh bed (there may also be a little throw that was added over the foot board of the bed - I can't tell what that is):

Another sleigh bed with casually layered bedding:

This next one has a top sheet, coverlet + two duvets (one has been folded in half and the other one looks like it was folded into thirds and then casually draped [thrown] down by the footboard on top of the first duvet):

these next photos were all sent in by customers on Pottery Barn's website to show their new bed + any bedding that was also purchased from PB):

This is another bed sold at PB - comforter kinds of thrown down on bottom half of bed + coverlet sort of folded and put on top (not much of the comforter has been tucked - so, it would look basically the same if it was pulled up a bit instead of having a couple inches tucked):

Another PB bed - duvets aren't very long unless you purchase an oversized insert + find an oversized cover. Hardly any of the duvet has been tucked (it simply could have been moved up a couple inches and folded as is in photo and would look the same):

Here are some photos submitted by customers who purchased the above PB bed. Any of these could be done basically the same way - but not tucked at all.

this customer below simply folded his/her duvet into thirds and placed at foot of bed + added a throw diagnonally at the bottom.

Another PB bed - two duvets used - one folded down+ the second one folded into thirds and placed at foot of bed (with faux fur throw added because there wasn't enough stuff on the bed already 🤣):
