need help with cabinet color and backsplash

last month

Hello. I need help with cabinet color for this kitchen! There are already so many colors. What would you suggest for a modernized update? At first I was thinking a light gray (agreeable gray), but that’s just another color in this mixture. Help!!!

explain what gray relates to...... floors and backsplash are a peach/salmon shade.....the counters are predominately yellow or gold shall we say. My impression is the floors and counter dont work well together. I'd fix that before bringing in gray for an expensive paint project. if you are just moving in you should wait. if you want to paint the cabinets "just because " then stay with a cream/ not gray. the tile floor everywhere would be taken out if this were my space. Its too much "tile" even if you love tile. But its expensive due to the volume. I'd shop around and see what I could do...maybe DIY a new floor....its work but not impossible. get the various opinions here..... Maybe some folks think the counters should go / in some areas tile floors suit the climate and lifestyle...there's that. But I would bet many think painting the cabinets wont solve issues and its expensive / a difficult task given the oak . This all means you should wait considering the very large space and the scope involved even with just one change. [ lots of work.....lots of money...lots of risk it wont be the proper change]

What is your longer term goal as far as updating this kitchen? Would painting be step 1 in a multi step process. If I were you, I'd keep the cabinets as they are except for maybe the island. That i'd consider painting but not gray--- agreeable or not. I'd also replace the countertop on the island with something more solid and neutral and get rid of that stone work on the back of the peninsula. My goal would be to take out as much "tuscan" as possible.

Are you only going to paint the cabinets, nothing else? Or are you going to change other things? Is this a house you plan to stay in for a long time? What is your budget? What do you like and dislike about this kitchen? What kind of kitchen do you want?

You’re giving us basically no information.

If the only thing you’re going to do is paint the cabinets, I’d say save your money and don’t bother.

The stained cabinets go well in there. I would leave them like they are, and then use some colorful accessories, to add a bit of interest to the kitchen. Definitely not any gray, since nothing in y our kitchen goes with gray.

    Consider another option.

    1. Leave the cabinets as they are (consider lowering that oddly higher one to be even with its neighbors). Give them a thorough cleaning.

    2. Remove the backsplash.

    3. Remove the faux stone on the peninsula. I’d remove it from the fireplace too. Consider cladding the peninsula in wood that matches the cabinets. This gives you plenty of options for a backsplash tile (and a fireplace cladding) that will tone down the yellow in the counters and update your space nicely. I’d go for a subway tile on the fireplace and a shaped tile for the backsplash, in the same glaze. This is Fireclay Tile in Ivory.

I think everyone that has commented is in agreement that painting the cabinets isn't the way to go.... at least as a first order of business. Look at you budget and long term plan, and make impactful changes that will neutralize and wipe out things that are truly "trendy" and show the age of the home in a bad light. The backsplash could be updated and the stone on the peninsula needs to go (IMO). From your pics I can't really see the cabinet hardware, but something tells me that it could be improved. It looks like a big nice house that needs a refresh but again, I would not touch those cabinets with paint at this time.

Oh..... Get rid of that copper surround on the range hood. You could easily coordinate it with existing cabinetry and match it with the peninsula if/when you take that stone off.

If it were me, I would leave the cabinets. I think they are the best part of the kitchen. I would start with new countertops and backsplash. Something light and clean... this way the cabinets will look even prettier! :)

If you absolutely hate brown cabinets then go ahead and paint them. But, you also have to change the counters and the backsplash to shift the vibe...

I think overall the gray and the various peaches and yellows and coppers etc won't go well together.

Consider Edgecomb Gray (NOT really gray) or Alabaster for clean paint to refresh the area. It goes well with basically everything and will tone down the peach in the floor. I think the space will become more neutral overall.

It really all depends on how much you want to do and how much you want to spend. Good luck :)

We honestly think you should leave the cabinet as is!
